  • Van Wonderen Stroopwafels: A tourist favorite, but worth the hype.

  • Albert Cuypmarket: A lively street market with all kinds of affordable eats—from fresh herring to meatballs to grilled cheese and sweet treats.

Mid-range ($$)

  • Cheesecake Project: A hidden gem that specializes in Basque cheesecakes.

  • China Sichuan Restaurant – Zeedijk: Authentic Sichuan flavors with bold spices and great variety. A top spot for Chinese food lovers.

  • Café Twee Prinsen: Cozy and local, with classic Dutch dishes and a great atmosphere by the canals. Perfect spot to simply drop in for a drink as well.

  • Café de Jaren: Bright, airy café with large windows, good coffee, and a perfect riverside terrace for people-watching.

  • Door 74: A stylish speakeasy with expertly crafted cocktails. Reservations required, but it’s worth it for the experience. Might take you a second to find the door, but look for the number 74.

Upscale ($$$)

  • Restaurant Graphite: Amsterdam’s first speakeasy-style Michelin-starred restaurant. Intimate, inventive, and unforgettable. Reservations required—when you book, they will send you a barcode for entry via WhatsApp.

  • Bistro de la Mer: A seafood-focused bistro with French flair.

  • Freddy’s Bar: Located in the De L’Europe Hotel, this classic bar offers premium cocktails and old-world charm.

Other things to do in Amsterdam

  • Anne Frank House: An eye-opening and emotional experience. You actually walk through the secret annex, gaining a sense of what life was like for those in hiding during the Holocaust.

  • Van Gogh Museum: Great for art lovers. The museum showcases Van Gogh’s work and life story.

  • Day trip to Volendam, Marken & Zaanse Schans: From windmills and wooden shoes to fresh seafood and scenic canals, these villages offer a perfect glimpse into traditional Dutch culture.
