Curator’s statement
Boquete is one of those places that surprises you in the best way. Tucked into Panama’s highlands, it blends cool mountain air, beautiful nature, and some of the best coffee in the world with a laid-back, welcoming energy. I love that it can be both adventurous and peaceful—one day you’re hiking to waterfalls or driving up Volcán Barú at sunrise, and the next you’re lingering over wine at a cozy restaurant. It’s perfect for families, active travelers, couples looking for a romantic escape, or anyone craving a long weekend surrounded by nature, great food, and coffee.

Things to do in Boquete

Parque Biblioteca
Take a coffee farm tour
Boquete produces some of the most celebrated coffee in the world, including Geisha. Visiting a local coffee farm is a must—you’ll walk through the plantations, learn about the harvesting process, and, of course, enjoy a great tasting.
Hike the trails & chase waterfalls
There are trails for every level, from easy nature walks to more challenging jungle hikes. The area is full of forests, hanging bridges, and hidden waterfalls, making it ideal for active travelers and families.
Volcán Barú at sunrise (4x4 tour)
For a truly unforgettable experience, take a 4x4 tour up Volcán Barú before sunrise. On a clear day, you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea from the summit, one of the few places in the world where that’s possible.
Visit Finca Oasis
Finca Oasis is a charming local farm experience where you can connect with nature in a more relaxed way. It’s a wonderful stop for families and anyone who wants to enjoy Boquete’s countryside beyond the typical tourist routes.
Tree trek & zip-lining
For something more adventurous, head to Tree Trek for zip-lining and other canopy activities. Beyond the adrenaline, they also offer rum, coffee, and honey tastings, which makes it a fun stop even for travelers who don’t want to zip line.
Picnic at Parque Biblioteca
For a slower afternoon, I love recommending a picnic at Parque Biblioteca. It’s peaceful, beautifully maintained, and perfect for families with kids who want space to run around while adults relax. Don’t forget to walk up to the top for the views and stroll along the river trail—it’s one of the prettiest easy walks in town.
Visit during the Flower & Coffee Fair
If your timing aligns, the annual Flower and Coffee Fair brings Boquete to life. Expect colorful floral displays, local food stands, live music, and a festive community atmosphere.
Relax with a massage at Valle Escondido
After a few active days, book a massage at Valle Escondido. It’s a beautiful setting and the perfect way to balance out hiking and adventure with some well-deserved relaxation.
Places to eat & drink in Boquete

Roasting marshmallows at The Rock
Panamonte Inn Restaurant
A Boquete classic. Panamonte offers refined, cozy dining with excellent wine and a romantic atmosphere, ideal for couples or a special dinner during a long weekend escape.
The Rock
One of the most unique dining spots in Boquete, built around a massive natural rock formation. The setting feels intimate and special, and the food consistently delivers. After you pay the bill, they even bring you a marshmallow to roast by the fireplace, a small but memorable touch that makes the evening feel extra cozy.
Bambuda Castle Restaurant
Yes, it’s a castle, and the views are spectacular. It’s a fun spot for sunset drinks or a casual meal, especially for families or groups who want something memorable but relaxed.
Il Pianista
A favorite for Italian cuisine after a day of hiking. The homemade pasta and comforting dishes make it a great choice for families and anyone craving a cozy, satisfying meal.
Valle Escondido Restaurant
Overlooking lush gardens and a golf course, this restaurant is perfect for a quieter lunch or dinner. The setting feels peaceful and slightly elevated without being formal.
Donde Giselle
For a more local experience, Donde Giselle is a must. It’s simple, authentic, and full of flavor, a great way to try Panamanian dishes.
Fresas Mary
Boquete’s cooler climate makes it famous for strawberries. A stop at Fresas Mary for fresh strawberries with cream is a sweet and very local treat, especially fun for families.
Altieri
Perfect for an afternoon break. Grab a coffee, and don’t forget to try the Geisha ice cream—it's a must.
Café Unido
A great place to dive deeper into Panama’s specialty coffee scene. It’s modern, relaxed, and ideal for remote workers or anyone who appreciates a well-crafted cup. Breakfast here is also delicious, making it an easy morning stop before a day of exploring.
Boquete Brewing Company
For live music and a casual night out, this is the place. Local beers, a friendly crowd, and a lively but not overwhelming vibe make it a great evening option.
Trescalini
A charming Italian spot with a warm atmosphere and solid wine list, this is another great romantic dinner option. It’s also a longtime favorite among Panamanians.
Bluefin Sushi
Surprisingly good sushi in the mountains. It’s a nice option if you’re staying for several nights and want variety.
Need to know
Climate
Boquete is cooler than the rest of Panama, thanks to its elevation. Evenings can feel chilly, so pack a light jacket.
Getting there
It’s about a 45-minute drive from David Airport (which has direct flights from Panama City).
Ideal length of stay
Three to four nights is perfect. Perfect for a long weekend.
Who it’s for
Boquete works beautifully for families with active kids, couples seeking a romantic mountain escape, and travelers who love nature, coffee, and good food without big crowds. It’s also surprisingly great for younger children as well. Places like La Granjerita and other small petting farms and other activities give kids hands-on experiences, and the town’s parks, easy trails, and open green spaces make it a very relaxed, family-friendly destination.
Rent a car
While Boquete itself is small and walkable in certain areas, I highly recommend renting a car. Many of the best experiences are spread out, and having your own car gives you flexibility and makes the trip much smoother, especially for families.
