Day 1: See the sights & sunset
I tell all my clients: do not sleep in on Day 1. Getting to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain before 8 am isn't just about avoiding crowds—it’s about claiming a private moment without 500 selfie sticks in your background.
For a "pinch me" moment, I sent my recent honeymooners to the Divinity Rooftop Bar at The Pantheon Iconic Hotel for sunset—you are literally face-to-face with the Pantheon’s dome, and it beats any street-level view.
Also, skip the generic gelato carts. Go to Giolitti, order the panna (fresh whipped cream) on top, and thank me later.
Day 2: The Colosseum & “Gay Street”
The Colosseum is non-negotiable, but here is the insider tip most guides miss: it sits right next to Via San Giovanni in Laterano, Rome’s designated “Gay Street,” making it easy to connect history with modern culture.
After exploring the ruins, I booked my clients a lunch at Palazzo Manfredi. Yes, it’s a splurge, but eating Michelin-starred food while staring directly into the gladiator arena is a core memory you cannot put a price on.
We balanced the luxury that evening with dinner at Osteria da Fortunata—watching the nonnas roll pasta by hand in the window is the best dinner theater in town.
Day 3: Explore the Vatican & Trastevere
Even for non-religious travelers, the Vatican is a must—but I encourage viewing it through a queer lens, celebrating Michelangelo’s genius and personal history.
To decompress afterwards, I always steer couples toward Trastevere. It’s the bohemian heartbeat of Rome and feels safer and more intimate than the city center.
My clients loved grabbing pastries at Le Levain (a hidden French gem in an Italian neighborhood) and just getting lost in the ivy-covered streets.

If you have a fourth day, let me arrange a private driver for Pompeii and Amalfi—it turns a frantic public transit day trip into a luxury coastal escape.
A crucial note on dining: Rome is not a “walk-in” city anymore, especially for viral spots like Piccolo Buco or Dillà. I handle these reservations weeks in advance because getting turned away at the door kills the romantic mood.
Finally, leave the heels at home—Roman cobblestones are unforgiving.
