Curator’s statement
Welcome to North Adams, a charming corner of the northern Berkshire Mountains where industrial history meets a vibrant, creative future. The 1999 opening of MASS MoCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) transformed a depressed industrial hub into a premier destination for art and nature lovers. It’s a place where you can spend your mornings hiking misty trails and your afternoons lost in world-class galleries, all while soaking in the quiet, intentional pace of life that defines this gorgeous mountain setting.

Things to do in North Adams

Immerse yourself in MASS MoCA: Housed in the sprawling former Arnold Print Works factory, this is the beating heart of North Adams. It’s one of the largest centers for contemporary visual and performing arts in the country. Plan to spend at least a full day (or two half-days) wandering through its thought-provoking galleries.
Sip a local brew: After your museum fix, head over to Bright Ideas Brewing, located right on the museum campus. It’s the perfect local spot to grab a craft beer and chat about your favorite exhibits in an industrial-cool atmosphere.
Wander the Business District: The downtown area is wonderfully walkable and filled with independent businesses. Spend a slow afternoon browsing eclectic record stores, cozy bookshops, and Future Lab, an artist-run gallery that perfectly captures this town’s commitment to its creators.
Visit the farmers market: If you’re visiting on a Saturday morning, don't miss the local farmers' market. It’s a great way to mingle with the community and pick up fresh, seasonal treats from the surrounding Berkshire farms.
Explore Greylock Works: Greylock Works is a hub for local food and craft located in a beautifully restored textile mill. Stop by State Food + Drink for a coffee and a locally sourced bite on your way to explore neighboring Williamstown or Mount Greylock.
Connect with nature: For an active nature escape, hike the unique white marble formations at Natural Bridge State Park or take the Busby Trail in Savoy Mountain State Forest for a peaceful trek through the woods. If you need an accessible view, you can drive to the summit of Mount Greylock for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Berkshires.
Places to eat & drink in North Adams

The Airport Rooms: Located at Tourists, this chic, retro-inspired lounge is the place to go for craft cocktails and a cozy, elevated vibe.
Hexagon Bagels: Though not actually hexagonal, these hand-rolled bagels are perfect for fueling up before a day of shopping or hiking.
Public Eat & Drink: This downtown staple offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with a great selection of seasonal comfort food and local beers.
Casita: Casita brings vibrant, authentic Mexican flavors to the Berkshires in an intimate and artfully designed space.
Steeple City Social: A community anchor with a vintage soul. This versatile spot transitions from a sun-drenched bakery and cafe by day to an intimate, welcoming bar by night.
Mezze Bistro: For a more refined evening, Mezze focuses on farm-to-table cuisine that celebrates the incredible produce and artisanal products of the Berkshire region.
Need to know
Pack layers, a raincoat, and sturdy shoes, as the mountain weather shifts quickly.
Also, keep an eye on businesses’ seasonal hours—this is a town that honors a slower pace, so mid-week schedules can vary.
