Curator’s statement
Located just two and a half hours from Washington, DC, Rehoboth Beach, also known as “The Nation’s Summer Capital”, is a relaxing, affordable escape that has long been a favorite destination for beachgoers in the Mid-Atlantic. This small yet bustling resort town offers sunny shores, delicious dining, fabulous nightlife, and, of course, tax-free shopping. You may even run into a former president while you’re here!
Having spent many summers here at the beach, I’ve put together some of my favorite spots from over the years to help you craft your perfect weekend or weeklong getaway to Rehoboth and the Delaware Beaches.

Things to do in Rehoboth Beach

Beachgoers stroll along Rehoboth's famous boardwalk
Hit the beach
Most folks are coming here for one reason and one reason only: the beach! The town abuts approximately one mile of beautiful Atlantic coastline, accessible via a boardwalk. And for folks who want something a little off-the-beaten-path, Poodle Beach at the far southern end of the boardwalk offers a haven for LGBTQ beach goers to escape the crowds that may gather near the town’s main beaches.
Take a walk on the boardwalk
Enjoy the salty air and ocean breezes as you strut along the Boardwalk, Rehoboth’s waterfront artery. While you’re here, check out the rides and arcade games at Funland Amusement Park, treat yourself to Thrasher’s French Fries, or enjoy a cool Kohr Brother’s frozen custard.
Escape to nature
Just up the road from town is Cape Henlopen State Park, which offers miles of untouched natural beaches. Check out the historic ruins of Fort Miles, explore the Point at the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, or go camping under the stars for a rustic beach experience.
Shop til’ you drop
On the outskirts of town along Route 1, you’ll find the Rehoboth Beach Outlets, which feature a mix of top designer stores at discount prices. And, as Delaware is famously known for its lack of sales tax, expect even bigger discounts on some of your favorite items.
Dance the night away
A haven for LGBTQ beachgoers, Rehoboth is just as fun off the sand after hours. Mix and mingle with fellow travelers at Aqua Bar and Grill, catch a live show or a cocktail at The Pines, or dance into the night at Diego’s.
Explore nearby towns
Beyond Rehoboth, there’s plenty to see in the other towns along the Delaware Beaches. Explore history and cuisine in Lewes, bar-hop in Dewey Beach, take it slow in Bethany Beach, or get lost in nature on Fenwick Isle. And of course, the sights and sounds of Ocean City are just a short hop away.

Fine dining with a great selection of fresh seafood, local cuisine, and crisp martinis. Summer dining at its finest.

A Rehoboth staple, Grotto’s has been serving up slices and pies to hungry beachgoers at all hours of the day. It’s the perfect snack after a day in the sun or a night out on the town.
Need to know
While most hotels offer on-site parking, street parking near the beach requires a permit. If you plan to drive directly to the beach, make sure you pick up a permit on the way into town to avoid hefty tickets and fees.
