Curator’s statement
Every year, Tolmin hosts a festival called Punk Rock Holiday, one of the most popular punk rock events in Europe. It attracts fans from all over the world and takes place in mid-August. The festival lasted five days and four nights, and I loved every second of it. The crowd was diverse, with people of all ages from all over the world, including families with kids. I felt incredibly safe and welcomed. One of the highlights for me was the food — there were SO many vegan options available at all times of the day, so I never struggled to find something to eat. Besides the festival food court, we also walked to the nearby supermarket every morning to grab breakfast essentials like bread, hummus, vegan yogurt, fresh juices and fruit. Our daily routine was simple but perfect: waking up early, walking to town for breakfast, spending the morning at the river, grabbing lunch at the festival food court and then heading to the shows. The afternoon performances took place on a stage by the beach, so we could watch the bands while chilling in the river —one of the coolest experiences of my life!

How to get to Tolmin
There are several ways to reach Tolmin, depending on where you're coming from and your preferred mode of transportation.
By plane
The nearest airport is Trieste Airport in Italy (about 80 km away). Another option is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in Slovenia (around 90 km away). From there, you can rent a car or use public transportation to reach Tolmin.
By car
If you're driving, you can reach Tolmin via major roads. It’s about 70 km northwest of Trieste, Italy, and 90 km northwest of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
By train
Tolmin doesn’t have its own train station, but the closest one is in Most na Soči, about 7 km away. From there, you can take a taxi or a local bus to Tolmin.

Slovenia has a good bus network connecting various towns and villages, including Tolmin. Regular buses run from Ljubljana and other major cities. Be sure to check schedules and book in advance if possible.
By festival transfer
This was the option I chose since I was attending a specific event that offered a transfer service. The nearest departure point was Venice, so I booked a flight from Brazil to Venice, spent a night there and took the festival transfer the next day. The trip took just over two hours — it was super convenient!
For my return, the festival transfer schedule didn’t match my flight, so I took a train to Treviso for my last night before flying home from Venice.
