Things to do in Edinburgh

Sunrise at Arthur’s Seat: Arthur’s Seat is an ancient volcano. It takes 30 minutes to an hour to get to the top, but every step is worth it. It is calm, quiet, and gives you 360-degree views of both the city and countryside. I guarantee you will feel complete peace at this amazing sunrise spot.
The Potter Trail: Edinburgh truly feels like you’re walking through a Harry Potter movie. It was fun to take a walking tour and hear about some of the spots where J. K. Rowling found inspiration. The tour guides get really into it through trivia questions, games, and storytelling! The tour is free—they just ask for donations at the end. After the tour, you can pop into the store, Museum Context, for a wide variety of Harry Potter merchandise. Don’t forget to grab a butter beer to go at The Elephant House!
Make a bag at the Islander Workshop Experience: Here, you craft your very own Harris Tweed bag, choosing from a variety of colors and sizes. Such a fun souvenir to bring home!
Rabbies Tour to The Highlands: There are a variety of tours to choose from, varying in locations and lengths of time. The Highlands are gorgeous, and driving through them with a tour guide detailing the history and playing traditional Scottish folk music really makes for a special day. You’ll experience cute little towns, Highland cows, various castles, and maybe even Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.
Sunset at Calton Hill: It’s a steep walk to the top but only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Pack some drinks and snacks and get there early for a good spot, as many people gather for this iconic sunset spot. You’ll see excellent views of the city and the National Monument.
Places to eat & drink in Edinburgh

Greenwoods: A cozy breakfast café! Make a reservation for the window table for some people-watching on the cutest street while you eat. It’s a great place to try an authentic Scottish breakfast.
Deacon’s House Cafe: I enjoyed a latte outside in the quaint, historic courtyard. It really felt like going back in time. The menu has a variety of items to choose from, including breakfast, baked goods, lunch, coffee, and other drink options.
Captain’s Bar: A local pub in an intimate setting with live folk music. It’s a great spot to really immerse yourself in the culture and music of Scotland.
Dishoom: I recommend making a reservation for this Indian restaurant, and highly recommend trying the Salli Boti or the house black daal.
Makars Mash Bar: Another spot—featuring local Scottish fare—to make a reservation at! I recommend the lamb shank with the butter mash.
