Curator’s statement
During my time in Southern Germany, I fell in love with Tubingen and Stuttgart. Just north of Stuttgart is this lovely wine country filled with vineyards and old castles to tour. Tubingen is this eclectic, vibrant town south of Stuttgart that makes you slow down and enjoy life. While it is filled with university students, the pace of life has a quiet energy to it. Stuttgart’s city life is bustling, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming or fast paced.

Things to do in Southern Germany

Tubingen
Wine tasting: Head north of Stuttgart to tour wine country! The valleys are gorgeous and spotted with vineyards that you can meander through or drop in and do a tasting.
Castles: Scattered about the countryside and surrounding areas of both Stuttgart and Tubingen are castles that you can tour. Some are older than others, but all fill you with a sense of timelessness and wonder. I loved the variety in size and structure.
Baroque Castle: This is located in Stuttgart and houses a huge garden and an interior that can be toured. Both German and English tours are offered. A must-do if you love history! It was stunning inside and so much fun to learn about events that still impact their society today.
Shopping in Tubingen: Lots of local vendors to choose from with locally sourced or handmade options!
Places to eat & drink in Southern Germany

Kebab place
While I do not have places to try these foods, they are readily available at most pubs and restaurants in southern Germany. Try some traditional German foods such as:
Käsespätzle: Basically Mac n cheese, but so much better in my opinion.
Maultaschen: Think pierogi meets dumpling. Conveniently hand-sized to take them on the go and munch while you’re walking about.
Swabian tapas: Pub food in short. Sausages, soups, spätzles, various potato dishes, and pretzels.
Kebabs: Gyros. They are all over the place and are so good! Highly recommend grabbing one while you’re in the city.
Need to know
In the main part of the town of Tubingen, there are no cars or trains allowed, so be prepared to get your steps in!
