Advisor - How to Make the Most of Your Frankenmuth Experience
Curator’s statement

Frankenmuth holds a special place in my heart because it was the first trip I took with my now-husband. It has now turned into a yearly family tradition for us! We have been going every year since we started dating (back in 2014) and we continue to go as our family grows.

Things to do in Frankenmuth

  • Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland: Bronner’s is the world’s largest Christmas store. They have every holiday decor item you could think of, from nativity scenes & advent calendars to personalized ornaments and stockings. Around the holidays, Santa is available for visits & pictures with additional photo ops throughout the store!

  • Zhenders Splash Village has over 50,000 square feet of aquatic fun! Water and tube slides, a zero-entry activity pool (great for the littles!), lazy river, action river, water volleyball and basketball, and hot tubs—there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

  • Bavarian Blast: Michigan’s BIGGEST indoor waterpark! Packed with 170,000 square feet of slides, waves, a lazy river, and so much more! Bavarian Blast even has an adults swim-up bar where you can sip on a frozen cocktail while the kids have the time of their lives!

  • Frankenmuth Cheese Haus: Here you will find your favorite cheese or maybe even a new favorite! They offer homemade cheese spreads as well as a wide selection of Michigan made products. These products range from meats and cheeses to beer and wine, all made locally in Michigan. After finding your new favorites, you can take a picture with the Cheese Haus Mouse—one of the most photographed images in all of Frankenmuth!

  • Walk downtown Frankenmuth: Downtown Frankenmuth is lined with an array of shops. From fudge and candy shops to clothing boutiques, there’s always something to see—or eat!

  • Bavarian Belle Riverboat: This one is for history enthusiasts! May through October, you can enjoy a narrated tour of Frankenmuth along the Cass River on their authentic paddlewheel riverboat.

  • Alpine Mountain Golf: Perfect for families, after a day at the waterpark, enjoy some outdoor fun! At Alpine Mountain Golf, you can enjoy mini golf, bumper boats, go karts, and bank-shot basketball. They also have a picnic area when you need to refuel before getting back at it!

Places to eat & drink in Frankenmuth

  • Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth: The real draw here is the atmosphere then anything else! Zehnder’s is known for their all-you-can-eat fried chicken dinner. Included with it comes mashed potatoes, dressing, cottage cheese, vegetables, a bread & cheese plate, and more! If you decide to stay at their hotel, they have a package that includes your room and dinner at their restaurant as well!

  • Elk Hollow Cafe: Located inside of Zhender’s Splash Village, this is a great option for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast is served buffet style and the lunch has a range of options from salads and appetizers to burgers and wraps. The portions are BIG—we have leftovers every time we stop here for lunch! The breakfast buffet here is also included in the package if you choose to stay at the hotel.

  • Frankenmuth Brewery: Beer enthusiasts, this is the place for you! Frankenmuth Brewery is Michigan’s oldest microbrewery. With 36 different styles of craft beer, you are bound to find one you enjoy. They keep a minimum of 15 beers on tap, including six of their core crafts, while the remainder are seasonal/rotating selections. All of their beers are brewed fresh on site, and if you find one you love, you can take home a growler of it! They also have a restaurant featuring items such as pizza and burgers.

  • Prost!: At this wine bar you can enjoy your wine at the perfect temperature right from the tap! They have their wine tapped similar to that of a draft beer, allowing it to stay fresh from the first glass to the last. This is a great spot for dinner or even just drinks and appetizers with their CYO charcuterie boards.

  • Bavarian Inn Restaurant: Similar to Zhender's, the Bavarian Inn Restaurant also features family-style dinners, including their Frankenmuth chicken dinner. If you decide to stay at the Bavarian Inn, you also have the option of the Stay, Dine & Play package, which includes your dinner at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant and breakfast.

Need to know

The busiest time of year to visit Frankenmuth is mid-November through December. Weekends are significantly busier than weekdays, where you will find Bronner’s has lines out of the building. The indoor waterparks are highly sought after during Michigan wintertime and can draw crowds to the area.
