Curator’s statement

Last November, I had the most amazing trip to London and Paris. This trip was a year in the making and certainly didn't disappoint. There were four of us (my three adult daughters and myself) and we created memories that will last a lifetime. This guide can be for friends, couples, girls trips or mother-daughter trips. We traveled at the beginning of the holiday season, which definitely helped to get ourselves into the holiday spirit!

London has something for everyone. After spending three nights there, we hopped on the Eurostar and were off to Paris. Two hours later we were in a new country with new traditions and, as an American, that always amazes me. From my experience, if you are limited on the amount of time you can be away, three nights in each city certainly gives enough of a taste that you will be satisfied with just enough of an itch to return.

Day 1: Arrive in London

A big red bus in front of the London tower.

On our first day in London, we went into full tourist mode. We wanted to see a lot in a short amount of time so that we'd have ample time to decide what to do with our remaining time.

We bought our tickets for the Big Bus Tour and did the entire loop, which took us all over the city of London and showed us every important attraction. From the London Eye to Piccadilly Circus, we were able to hop on and off, take pictures and note exactly where we needed to return. Once we approached Mayfair and Soho, we knew that was going to be one of our stops the next day.

Upon arriving back to our hotel room, we took a quick nap (30 minutes) to refresh then met at the lobby bar for cocktails. The Rosewood London is fabulous and home to Scarfs bar, which is one of the most famous in London. After some snazzy cocktails, we hopped in our taxi (some of the coolest taxis ever) and headed to dinner.

I knew I was going to love Chiltern Firehouse, and I did. From the moment we walked in there were celebrity sightings, beautiful people, great music and a perfect candlelit ambiance. We had an amazing meal and after dinner managed to get ourselves into their private nightclub where we mingled with people from all around the world. It was probably our best night in London! Reservations are not easy to get at Chiltern, but we knew a few secrets and managed to get ourselves a perfect 9:00 reservation for four. I highly recommend trying your luck here!

Day 2: Head to Mayfair

An elegant high tea at Sketch complete with cookies, crackers and drinks.

On day two, we woke up and had a quick coffee in our room before heading out to Mayfair. We spent the entire morning shopping and browsing in the beautiful stores. Our favorite stop was Hamley's Toy Store - we spent way too much time there, considering we're all adults. But who can blame us? It was happy, bright and fun!

After our morning shopping, we headed over to Sketch for high tea (another tough reservation, but if you know, you know). Sketch was elegant and super cool. The food was delicious and we started our tea with a glass of champagne, or two.

After Sketch, we decided to make our way to some vintage stores and moved on to Soho just as it was getting dark so we could see the Christmas lights on Oxford Street. We explored the entire area and headed for a cocktail at the famous Connaught Bar.

After a quick shower, we headed to Gymkhana, a Michelin-starred fine-dining Indian restaurant that was truly amazing and life-changing. Afterwards, we took a hop over to the Brown's Hotel for some gorgeous cocktail creations. Finally, we ended the evening at the lounge at the newly opened 1 Hotel in Mayfair.

Day 3: Buckingham Palace

A wooden cart with decorative flowers outside on a brick road with shopping centers in the background.

Today, we knew we had a lot to see. We got up early and went straight to Buckingham Palace. We didn't see a changing of the guards, but we definitely got great photos and a feel of the Royal Family's residences.

After that, we jumped into a taxi and headed straight to Covent Garden. Ah, Covent Garden was my absolute favorite. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and full of luxury shops and amazing restaurants. We spent some time in Joe Malone London shopping for candles and fragrances and were treated to champagne! Then, we stumbled upon a lovely little restaurant called La Goccia. We had negronis and some delicious food and then continued our shopping and exploring. Upon sunset, we headed back for a quick change of clothes.

Our evening was spent at Ave Mario, which is super fun, delicious and part of the famous Big Mama food group.

Day 4: Bonjour Paris

A view of Matignon Club in Paris with stools and decorative walls.

We woke up, checked out of our hotel in London and headed straight to the train station to board the Eurostar to Paris. It was comfortable and quick. In just two hours, we were in an entirely different country. Paris is DREAMY!

Our first stop (even before the hotel) was for a baguette and a cafe. We checked into our beautiful hotel then headed straight out for some shopping. Yes, we did a lot of shopping - after all, it was a girls trip! You name it, we were there! Cartier, Chanel, YSL and every store in between. My girls made their purchases (and I may have even bought myself a little something). Then, we went back to our hotel to freshen up.

We spent our evening with some friends who were also in Paris, in a restaurant turned nightclub right off of the Champs-Elysees called Matignon. It was cozy, sexy and definitely a big part of the Paris nightclub scene.

Day 5: Vintage Shopping in Paris

A view of the Eiffel Tower above trees.

On day five, we walked along the Seine River after breakfast and took in the amazing sights and sounds of Paris. Then, off to do some vintage shopping. Paris has the most AMAZING options!!!

Just before the sun set, we went over to the Eiffel Tower so we could see it at dusk in all of its twinkling glory. Then, it was a quick cab ride back to our hotel to change for the evening.

We wanted to go to the chic area of La Marais for dinner because of its young and hip energy, as well as the fact that there are tons of fabulous restaurants and cafes. We had no plans and no reservations. We decided to wing it! We stumbled upon Cafe Charlot, which took no reservations, so we had to wait in line. It was perfect and exactly what we had hoped for. We had traditional bistro french food (i.e. steak frite and lots of pomme frites) followed by a post-dinner walk exploring the area.

Day 6: Au Revoir Paris

A perfume shop with decorative wood finishings.

On our last day in Paris, we hired a four-hour car service to take us to see anything we had missed so far. We went to Notre Dame, the Louvre and drove to just about every neighborhood there. Our last stop was a place my daughters researched extensively! We entered Officine Universelle Buly and were mesmerized by the beautiful smell of roses. They sell amazing homemade scents in body oils, perfumes and candles. We had brushes engraved with our initials and spent time finding the perfect scent to buy and bring home. They wrapped them so beautifully. It was truly an amazing experience!

After our tour, we were starving, so we went over to the Rosewood Hotel de Crillon to go to lunch at their famous restaurant called Nonos. We had more steak frits, potatoes gratin and about four different souffles. It was the perfect way to end the afternoon.

For dinner, we walked around the block from our hotel to a restaurant recommended by a local French woman, of whom we met in Cartie, called Mademoiselle. We ended our perfect stay in Paris with an incredible meal. Au revoir Paris!
