Milwaukee has a modern streetcar system called The Hop. It runs right through downtown, the Historic Third Ward, and the Lower East Side, and thanks to corporate sponsorships, it is 100% free to ride. Use the L-Line spur to drop you right off at the lakefront near the Art Museum.
The "secret" museum discount
If you want to visit the Milwaukee Art Museum but are on a budget, look out for their community days, or check out the Grohmann Museum nearby. It’s a lesser-known gem with a cool rooftop sculpture garden that offers one of the best, most unique views of the downtown skyline.
Master the Friday night fish fry
If you are in town on a Friday, getting a fish fry is non-negotiable. For a classic, old-school tavern vibe, head to Lakefront Brewery (they have live polka music) or Kegel's Inn. Pro tip: Show up early (around 4:30 p.m.) or late (after 8 p.m.) if you want to avoid massive lines.
Catch the Milwaukee Night Market
If you happen to be visiting on select Wednesday nights in the summer (usually one Wednesday a month in June, July, August, and September), head to West Wisconsin Avenue. The street shuts down for a massive, high-energy night market packed with local food trucks, live DJs, artists, and pop-up beer gardens.
