Advisor - Ultimate Luxury & Relaxation in Punta Mita
Curator’s statement

I first discovered Punta Mita with my husband in 2010, when we were searching for true relaxation. After experiencing luxury travel in Thailand, we wanted to find something equally indulgent—but closer to home. Punta Mita delivered. Over the years, we’ve returned four more times. Every time we arrive, it feels like we can finally exhale and fully immerse ourselves in the luxury and calm. It has truly become our sanctuary.

Things to do in Punta Mita

The spa at the Four Seasons

Hit the spa

The spas at the resorts in Punta Mita are some of the most beautiful and calming spaces I’ve ever experienced. Even if you’re not booking a treatment, you can still enjoy them—spa access is included with your room at the Four Seasons, available for a small fee at the St. Regis, and complimentary at certain status levels at the W. Spa pools are always peaceful and far less crowded than the main pools, and you may even be treated to complimentary touches like lemongrass and lavender popsicles. Be sure to ask your concierge or butler about making a reservation!

Take a day trip to Sayulita

If you don’t have a rental car, your hotel can easily arrange transportation, but it’s only a 25- to 40-minute drive from Punta Mita and absolutely worth the trip. The vibe is colorful and casual—like a beach town where everyone’s on an endless surf-inspired gap year. Rent a beach chair, sip a cold beer with your toes in the sand, and spend the day surfing, shopping, enjoying laid-back coastal dining, and people-watching.

Visit Hidden Beach & the Marieta Islands

Take a half- or full-day boat excursion to the famous Hidden Beach (locals call it Love Beach), a secluded cove formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity and natural erosion. Along the way, you’ll spot more than 80 bird species, including the rare blue-footed booby. Your travel advisor or hotel concierge can book a licensed, conservation-minded operator—Marieta Sport Fishing is a highly rated choice.

Tequila makes everything better!

Private tastings are easy to arrange, whether it’s an in-resort experience (sometimes complimentary) or a half-day trip to a nearby distillery. While Punta Mita doesn’t have its own, the Cachasol Distillery at Rancho del Mono is a short drive away and offers both tequila and raicilla tastings. Ask your advisor or concierge for details and make sure to have them book transportation!

Go paddleboarding

Calm, protected inlets around Punta Mita make ideal waters for paddleboarding, especially in the morning when it’s serene and glassy. Many resorts provide boards on a first-come, first-served basis. Personally, I like to relax with a Pacifico on the beach while my husband paddles by.

Enjoy world-class golf

I’m not a golfer, but the beauty of the Jack Nicklaus–designed courses is undeniable—especially the iconic “Whale’s Tail” hole, referred to as the world’s only natural island green. If you plan to play, reserve your tee time well in advance and aim for an early start to beat the heat.

Get on a boat!

Whether you’re interested in sport fishing, a sunset cruise, or a fully catered private yacht, Punta Mita’s got it. Options range from small group outings to luxury charters with champagne and gourmet dining. Your advisor can match you with the right crew and adventure.

Lean into wellness & cultural experiences

Immerse yourself in local traditions with a temazcal ceremony, private beach yoga, cooking classes, or a mezcal-blending session. Most resorts offer curated wellness packages and custom spa rituals for a truly restorative experience.

Where to stay

Below are five top luxury properties in and around Punta Mita—each offering a distinct experience for upscale travelers.

  • The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort—my favorite: A refined, impeccably maintained resort with incredible dining options, a beautiful spa, directly on a pristine and swimmable beach. The property underwent renovations a few years ago and they’ve added a new pool and restaurant. St. Regis emphasizes bespoke service (butler service), pairing guests with a team of butlers waiting to assist with any requests like dinner recommendations and reservations, transportation, even coffee delivery and handling pressing items of clothing. Once you’re on property, there is truly nothing to worry about except reapplying sunscreen.

  • Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita: A long-standing luxury anchor on the peninsula with expansive grounds, family-friendly programming, multiple pools, and several on-site restaurants and activities. The property is enormous with a ton of options for villa rentals, making it an ideal location for larger or multi generational families. Post up at Mez for a craft mezcal cocktail for breath-taking views of the ocean or treat yourself to a sunset dinner at Bahia, with perfectly cooked steaks, fresh seafood, and even delicious vegan options, just steps from the ocean. It’s all perfection.

  • Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita: I have so much to say about this resort. Naviva is the epitome of luxury, with an emphasis on privacy, nature, and understated design that blends seamlessly into its surroundings. This relatively new, adults-oriented, all-inclusive “glamping” concept from Four Seasons redefines luxury with tented bungalows inspired by safari camps, curated wellness and adventure activities, and inclusive dining experiences—all set within an intimate footprint designed for total immersion in nature. Instead of a traditional restaurant, Naviva features a communal-style “kitchen”, where every meal is crafted around the freshest local ingredients and tailored to guest preferences, ensuring each dining experience feels both personalized and authentic. From the moment you book, a dedicated team handles every detail—from luxury airport transfers to on-property transportation and bespoke activity planning. Perfect for clients seeking true seclusion, Naviva is an extraordinary choice for a romantic escape or a restorative solo retreat, offering the kind of exclusivity and connection to nature that’s almost impossible to find elsewhere.

  • Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection: A boutique-luxury Auberge property focused on wellness, dining, and an elevated, intimate oceanfront experience and named the #2 Resort in Mexico by Travel + Leisure 2025 World’s Best Awards. The resort places emphasis on quiet privacy, and while there are guest rooms, suites, residences, and villas like the Four Seasons, the grounds are more intimate. There’s also a focus on wellness with a variety of immersive therapies and workshops designed to help guests find inner peace. Guests can participate in cooking classes, intention-setting rituals or do nothing at all. And end the day with a meal inspired by local flavors at one of their restaurants or have a meal prepared at their residence by a private chef.

  • W Punta de Mita: A younger, design-forward option, W Punta de Mita offers a bold, surf-inspired aesthetic and a lively atmosphere. The resort blends beach club energy with modern dining concepts, making it an ideal fit for stylish couples, groups of friends, and families who enjoy a contemporary vibe. It’s one of the most affordable resorts in the area and perfect for those looking to experience the beauty of Punta Mita without the steep prices you’ll find elsewhere. Right after check-in, head down the colorful tiled stairs to grab a cocktail and take in sweeping views of the property from the sky-bridge. For relaxation, I highly recommend a day at the spa, complete with miniature popsicles and soaking pools shaded by a canopy of trees. Cap off the evening with dinner at Spice Market, where vibrant flavors pair beautifully with a local bottle of wine.

  • Independent home and villa rentals: There are plenty of condo, home, and villa rentals outside the major resorts, often at a lower price. If you’re looking for extra space while keeping costs down, ask your travel advisor for recommendations from their trusted rental partners.

Places to eat & drink in Punta Mita

The view from Mita Mary

Bahia, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita

You don’t have to be a guest to dine at one of the Four Seasons’ restaurants. Just reserve in advance and plan to arrive about 20 to 30 minutes before your reservation—non-guests are only admitted shortly beforehand. For upscale beachfront dining, I recommend Bahia. With tables just steps from the ocean, outstanding food, and impeccable service, it’s one of our favorite spots to watch the sunset. You really can’t go wrong with the menu, but the toasted heirloom carrots are a must-try. Expect this to be your most indulgent meal of the trip.

The St. Regis Punta Mita

  • Mita Mary: Once a casual taco boat, Mita Mary has had a glow-up with a more refined look and elevated menu. It’s still our favorite lunch spot—barefoot and in swimsuits—for shrimp, fish, and veggie tacos. The dinner menu adds heartier dishes, but the laid-back, toes-in-the-sand vibe remains perfect for an oceanfront meal.

  • Sea Breeze: My second favorite spot at the resort. They serve gourmet pizzas and grilled specialties, and I loved the pizza so much I ordered it two nights in a row—it really is that good.

Casa Teresa

One of my all-time favorite Italian restaurants, Casa Teresa feels like a cozy, family-run trattoria with elegant rustic décor (a little over the top in the best way). Service is warm and personal, and the lasagna—with impossibly delicate layers—is a must. Their wine list is excellent, too. Have your advisor or hotel concierge book a table; it’s well worth the $12 cab ride into town.

La Pescadora

A casual beachfront barbecue and seafood spot known for ultra-fresh ceviches and zarandeado-style fish. The open-air setting and ocean views make it a prime place to sip margaritas and catch the sunset. We missed it on our last visit, but it remains a favorite.

Need to know

The overall vibe

Despite its rise as a luxury hotspot, Punta Mita retains the essence of its fishing-village roots. The pace is relaxed, the atmosphere is sophisticated yet unpretentious, and there’s a strong sense of connection to the sea. Guests can enjoy five-star amenities and private villas while still wandering into town for a fresh seafood taco or live music. If your idea of vacation involves mezcal cocktails, surfboards, and infinity pools, Punta Mita is the place for you.
