Where to stay in Las Vegas

Things to do in Las Vegas

  • Hotel browsing: It costs nothing to visit every hotel and check out the different themes in each one. There’s so much to discover that doesn’t include gambling, including shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and special exhibits.

  • The Sphere: An absolutely amazing experience whether you visit for a special concert or movie, or you get a ticket for the Sphere’s everyday show. (Note: The seating area is very steep.)

  • Fremont Street: A visit to “Old Vegas” will be a fun evening experience. Be ready to see things you may never have seen with street performers. Check out the concert schedules and maybe take a ride on the zip lines.

  • Cirque du Soleil: Any of these shows will be a wonderful experience for your family. So creative, unusual, and entertaining.

  • Flamingo habitat at The Flamingo: A surprising tropical oasis with lots of animals, including flamingos, tropical birds, and turtles. I enjoy this area for its quiet break from the busy Strip.

  • Bellagio Conservatory: If you do nothing else, visit this gorgeous live garden. Throughout the year, the gardeners and workers of the Bellagio change the theme so you’re likely to get a unique experience whenever you visit.

  • Area 15: Off the Strip with about a 15-minute drive, Area 15 is a fun and unique experience for all ages! The spot includes hang-gliding, virtual reality rides, Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, restaurants, and entertainment.

  • Gondola rides at The Venetian: Reserve your tickets for a gondola ride inside/outside of The Venetian. It’s a great way to see the beautiful shopping area and the outside of the resort, and you might even get serenaded by the gondolier.

  • Go off the Strip: Visit the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and other sites that are within driving distance of the Strip.

Places to eat & drink in Las Vegas

  • Buddy V’s Ristorante at The Venetian: Wonderful Italian food, great service, and fun atmosphere. Happy hour includes great food and drink specials that could fill you up for the evening. Carlo’s Bakery is right across the hallway for a sweet dessert (mind the line).

  • Bavette’s Steakhouse at Park MGM: A gorgeous restaurant that has a speakeasy vibe. Staff are so friendly and attentive. The menu has a variety of steak, fish, and chicken to choose from with great drinks and wine to compliment the meal. Seats at the bar include great conversation with fun bartenders.

  • Mon Ami Gabi at Paris: This is the best brunch in Las Vegas. Reservations are greatly recommended. The crepes are so delicious I haven’t been able to order anything else yet. Great mimosas and coffee, too.

  • Gordon Ramsay’s Burger Restaurant at Planet Hollywood: This is a great lunch spot with delicious burgers and fries, and a large draft beer selection. It’s easy to find near the entrance to the Planet Hollywood Casino.

  • Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at Caesar’s Palace: Stop in here for great atmosphere, friendly staff, and Sticky Toffee Pudding! It’s right in the middle of Caesar’s near the food court.

  • Amaya at The Cosmopolitan: Modern Mexican food in a beautiful restaurant with friendly and attentive wait staff. If you go for lunch, you probably won’t need dinner.

Need to know

  • Taxis are your friends. They’re cheaper than ride shares, easy to access in taxi lines outside of the casino/hotel you’re in, and are clean and safe.

  • You’ll be walking a lot. Wear comfortable shoes.

  • Check out a magic show. They’re very fun and entertaining.

  • Stay hydrated—the desert is very hot and dry.
