Narrow boats in the water during the daytime
Curator’s statement

Thailand was the final leg my honeymoon and it did not disappoint. The simplicity of the food and culture is what has left an imprint from my time in Thailand. Chiang Mai offered incredible activities, while the islands offered the ability to disconnect and relax. Thailand really showed off with incredible views and sunsets we'll never forget.

Things to do in Thailand

A couple posing for a photo in a swimming pool during the daytime

Chiang Mai

  1. Patara Elephant Farm, one of the best in thailand and known for taking great care of elephants. Each elephant is assigned the same care taker from the time they come to the sanctuary.

  2. Yummy Thai Cooking Class, run and owned by Noodle and it was fantastic

  3. Go to a boxing match, we had a blast. You'll see cars with music driving by that you can buy tickets from.

  4. Massages! Chaba Prai Massage owned by a really nice man from Europe and was very clean and well done - didn't feel like a sweat shop like many other massage places in Chiang Mai can feel.

  5. Sticky Waterfalls (Bua Tong), if you have time where you want to explore outside the city (about an hour or so) you can take a songtaew to Sticky Waterfalls which was pretty cool and off the beaten track. Because the falls are limestone you can actually walk UP them, which was really really

  6. Doi Suthep is a great temple and a must-see! You dont have to book a tour here. You can get a songtaew directly to Doi Suthep and its only about $1 to enter. It is a beautiful temple with a beautiful lookout as well. Really beautiful!!

  7. Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is another recommended

Krabi

  1. Visit Railay Beach is beautiful

  2. Kayak off the beach or snorkel

Koh Lanta

  1. Go to Bamboo Beach! A very small beach off a dirt road, beautiful and private
There is Koh Lanta National park with a pretty lighthouse you can hike up to and a private beach there, very pretty, lots of monkeys!

  2. Old Town - Sea Gypsy town, really cute little town on the East side of the island with small shops and restaurants.

  3. The best thing we did on this island was the four island boat tour for a whole day.

  4. Koh Rok tour, you can actually camp out there for a night, do it through this company: Freedom Adventures

Places to eat & drink in Thailand

Two bowls of Thai cuisine

Chiang Mai

  1. Sunday Night Market is the biggest one starts at tae Phae Gate in old city and basically all of old city turns into a market you can shop and eat for HOURS.

  2. Kat's Kitchen (Old City): Great food, really cute place, YUMMY watermelon shakes

  3. Aroy Dee has very authentic Thai Cuisine and spoke to some really nice people there that were also traveling

  4. Local Food Market and Anusarn Night Market

  5. David's Kitchen in Chiang Mai - not a must-go, but pretty good if you want a break from asian food (it's french/modern fusion).

  6. Fresh Coconuts with every meal for $1 essentially everywhere you go

Phuket

  1. DIBUKA - super modern, amazing food and cocktails

  2. Zimplex Mixology Lab - coolest shots ever.

Krabi

  1. The Hilltop - amazing food at a restaurant with the best view of Krabi island - awesome sunset.

Need to know

The main transport there are called songtaews, they are pickup trucks, usually red, converted into taxis. They'll take you wherever you need to go. No need to pay more than 40 THB for 10-minute rides (a little over $1)

Everyone is really friendly, you may be wondering "what's the catch, when are they going to take my things, this is too good to be true.." no, Thai people really are just that kind.
