Curator’s statement
I originally fell in love with Barcelona over the course of many solo business trips there, where I would build in time to explore the city and the area’s beaches. As a family-friendly destination with incredible architecture, activities, shopping, and food—I could not wait to plan a trip for my family. From the cobblestone streets around Las Ramblas to the crystal blue waters of Begur, my family loved every minute. It’s a destination not to be missed!

Things to do in Barcelona

Tossa de Mar
Barcelona
Starting at Plaça de Catalunya, wander down las Ramblas, checking out the different stalls along the way and then arriving at The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria.
Find a seat at one of the incredible food stalls at The Mercat de la Boqueria for lunch or stroll through the aisles and pick up fresh fruit, cheese, jamon, or candies to enjoy.
Stroll through the Gothic quarter with it's maze of narrow, medieval streets and hidden squares. Visit the stunning Barcelona Cathedral.
Explore the incredible works of Antonio Gaudi: Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell. Get tickets to the Magic Nights show at Casa Batilo.
Go shopping in the Born neighborhood. Then continue on to the waterfront to rent bicycles and explore the extensive seafront. Enjoy a bite to eat or grab a drink at one of the beachside Xiringuitos.
Costa Brava: Daytrip (best to rent a car) or spend a night or two exploring the famous coastline of the Costa Brava. Some standout spots include:
Tossa de Mar: Spend a day on the sandy beaches of Tossa de Mar. Enjoy shopping and lunch at one of the many shops and restaurants just off the beach and walk up to the old castle and take in the views.
Begur: Walk down the historic, coastal path to enjoy the beach at Platja Fornells. Bring gear to snorkel or get there early (when the water is calm) and head to the kiosk to have a boat take you out to explore nearby caves.
Places to eat & drink in Barcelona

El Quim de la Boqueria: Inside the Mercat de la Boqueria, this traditional but innovative tapas stall is a must (provided you can get a seat!)
Tantarantana: It’s a tongue twister, but the tapas are top-notch! The fried eggplant with honey is my favorite.
Pastisseria Hoffman: The most beautiful bakery and baked goods. Their mascarpone crossaint has a viral following.
Xiringuito Escriba: It wouldn’t be a visit to Spain without paella, and theirs is top-notch.
Paco Meralgo: A popular neighborhood spot for sophisticated but casual traditional dishes. Make a reservation—it gets busy!
Need to know
While family-friendly, travelers should make sure to keep their valuables secure as pick-pocketing is common in tourist areas.
