I fell in love with both Terlingua and Big Bend National Park. This remote area grants a sense of peace and a place to slow down and enjoy what is around you. My favorite thing was the stargazing! The Dark Sky area affords some of the best views of the Milky Way.

Stargazing in Big Bend
Hot Springs Trail: This easy, short trail takes you right down to the bank of the Rio Grande. Along the bank is a ruin of an old hot spring resort. The area is small, but the water is nice and hot! Avoid midday during the warmer months, as there is very little shade by the hot spring “tub.”
Venga: This wonderful cafe has local art, outdoor gear in case you forgot anything, and amazing food! We spent the morning perusing the art and goods and ended up purchasing quite a few pieces of art.
Stargazing: With this national park being known for its dark skies, take advantage of the night! Plan your visit around the new moon and in the winter; this will provide you with the best viewing experience. We didn’t even have to drive into the park itself–we spent the evening stargazing from the comfort of our little A-frame rental.
The Boathouse: Located right behind Milky Way Treats, this bar has live music! If you’re looking for something to do after hours (especially if you want a way to stay up for stargazing), this is a great option. Lots of furry locals gather between venues and if you’re lucky, you will be chosen and get to spend the evening with one of the sweet dogs.
Big Bend National Park: Take a drive through the park! The scenery is stunning and can vary wildly during your drive. There are lots of photo options as well as hiking trails to take, no matter your fitness level.
Terlingua Cemetery: This is a very old cemetery that is widely known in the area. If you are inclined toward spooky or historical areas, check this place out!

Venga: Wonderful cafe that has some local art and wares!
Milky Way Treats: Love this little food truck, perfect for a hot day treat.
Taqueria El Milagro: Best tacos I’ve had a while!
Espresso y Poco Mas: Go for the breakfast burrito, it’s a must.
Starlight Theater Restaurant: Family friendly and good fun!
DB’s Rustic Iron BBQ: Looking for some traditional Texas BBQ, you’ve found it!
High Sierra Bar and Grill: Local watering hole that feels rustic and cozy.
Quicksilver Cafe: If you can’t fund what you like at Espresso y Poco Más then this is a great follow up.
Need to know
Be sure to get gas at the last town before Terlingua, as they are spaced quite far apart. When driving through the national park, please fill up before entering, as there are no gas stations in the national park. Keep your eye out for wildlife, since this is a remote area–you are in or on their homes.
