My Story

Hi, I’m Katrina!

If we haven’t met yet, I’m a travel obsessive, aesthetic nurse, and co-founder of Avenoir, currently based in Lisbon.

I started Avenoir because I kept finding myself being the person friends called before a trip. Where should I stay? What’s actually worth it? Is that restaurant as good as the photos? And I genuinely loved being that person—the one who had done the research, stayed in the room, eaten the meal, and could tell you honestly whether it was worth your time and money.

I travel the way most people wish they could, slowly, intentionally, with a lot of notes. I will always ask for the best table. I will always check in early if I can. I notice when a hotel gets the small things right, and I notice when it doesn’t.

Travel Style

My travel style is best described as intentional and immersive. I’m not a checklist traveler—I want to feel somewhere, not just see it. That means choosing places with a strong sense of character over the obvious pick, staying somewhere that’s been thought about, and building in enough space to actually absorb where I am.

I’m drawn to the mountains, the water, and anything that requires a bit of effort to reach—a hike to a mountain hut, a cable car to a ridge, a village that doesn’t show up on the first page of Google.

Wellness is always part of the equation—not as the whole point, but as woven in. A great spa after a long day on the trails. A cold plunge before breakfast. Time that genuinely feels restorative.

I tend toward boutique over branded, specific over generic, and I’ll always choose the place with the better story over the one with the better reviews. I’ve been building a Google Maps list of recommendations for years—Fora felt like the natural next step.
