Visiting smaller cities like Savannah, GA, or the downtown areas of larger cities like Chicago lets my husband and me make the most of our vacation days by taking several shorter trips each year. When choosing a hotel, a central location is a top priority—we love being able to step outside and immediately find ourselves among shops, restaurants, and local attractions. If there are multiple options, I’m drawn to those with picturesque lobbies or magazine-worthy rooftop patios. A good on-site restaurant is also a must for those nights when we don’t feel like venturing out, and if there’s a balcony option available, I’m choosing it! And sometimes the goal is simply to get away from it all and make the hotel or resort the destination. There might be only a few things to do nearby, but without a set schedule, we’re happy to enjoy stay-in-and-do-nothing days.
