Athena Abrol — Travel Curator Extraordinaire
This is my second time trusting Athena with a trip and she has only gotten better. For my 52nd birthday, I wanted to travel solo but had no clear brief. The world felt uncertain, flights unpredictable, and I simply knew I wanted something introspective yet engaging enough that I wouldn’t feel the loneliness of solo travel. I handed her that vague, feeling-led brief and stepped back. She chose Sri Lanka. Perfectly.
Athena knows me well enough to know that Geoffrey Bawa’s aesthetic isn’t just a preference — it’s a pilgrimage. She chose Lunuganga as my base, and what she orchestrated there was quietly extraordinary: I had my birthday lunch at the very table where Bawa himself used to sit. The staff, the setting, the unhurried grace of the place — it felt curated, not coincidental. That’s Athena’s gift.
For the Galle leg, she chose Amangalla — precisely right for the mood she was building. And then she layered in everything that makes a trip memorable rather than merely comfortable: a gifted photographer, beautifully chosen restaurants, ancient temples, local experiences that felt authentic rather than arranged. She coordinated with the Aman team to ensure my birthday was marked with intention and warmth.
What sets Athena apart is that she listens to what you feel, not just what you say. She’s prompt, she’s thoughtful, and she clearly loves what she does. I return to her because I trust her — and trust, in travel, is everything.
