Curator’s statement

Sonoma is a great destination for groups, couples and bachelorette parties with so many different things for everyone to enjoy. Close enough to Napa if you want to venture over that way, Sonoma has a more laid-back approach to wineries. Their downtown area is packed with tons of eateries, wine bars and shopping with a fun mix of locals and visitors.

Things to do in Sonoma

Vineyard-sonoma-travel-guide
  • Start your day at Gloria Ferrer with a glass of bubbly! Gloria Ferrer prides themselves on their selection of sparkling wines and has an amazing terrace that overlooks their vineyards. You can schedule a tasting, or you can just grab a bottle to share with the group! (Opens at 10.)

  • Right down the road is Jacuzzi Family Vineyards. Along with your wine tasting, they also provide bread with an olive oil tasting. Your wine tasting will take place in a beautiful courtyard and their beautiful landscaping and buildings will make you feel like you’re in an Italian piazza!

  • The winery next door is Viansa and is the perfect place to plan for lunch. You can make a reservation for a wine tasting and then add your lunch items there. Choose from an array of salads, pasta salads and sandwiches. (Pro tip: get their brie, ham and jam sandwich. I still dream about this sandwich.) The grounds are beautiful — oftentimes hosting weddings — and are situated high up with sweeping panoramic views of the Sonoma Valley.

  • Now it’s time to head back up the road and across the street from Jacuzzi to Cline Family Cellars to end your day. They have tons of room with picnic-style tables for you to bring your glass — or bottle — and wind down in a beautiful setting. They have a cute gift shop in the taproom and also offer little meat and cheese plates to purchase. Keep an eye out for their winery donkeys!

Breakfast

  • Sunflower Caffè - A cute, quick-service cafe known for their breakfast and fresh ingredients you can enjoy on their heated patio.

  • Baker & Cook - Cozy cafe with a great patio. Tons of baked goods, bagel sandwiches and delicious coffee.

  • Layla - Mediterranean flair brunch options with great breakfast cocktails and an amazing Bloody Mary.

Lunch/Dinner

  • The Girl & The Fig - French bistro with cozy indoor decor and lovely patio. Salads and sandwiches to full entrees available for lunch. (If going in the summer, don’t skip their sorbet cocktails!)

  • Tasca Tasca - Delicious Portuguese tapas, making it easy to share with a group. Build your own tasting plate by choosing three to seven items from their extensive list!

  • Lou’s Luncheonette - Unassuming diner with Southern-style food — yes, fried chicken! — with a fun patio including games. (Ping pong anyone?) Even if you eat inside, head out to the patio and take a picture with their epic Sonoma mural!

  • HopMonk Tavern - Gastropub menu with great craft beers on tap, along with an extensive wine and cocktail menu. Live music most nights on the patio makes this place the place to be!
