Where to stay

Some people might be surprised that my husband and I (two adults without children) return to Disney World year after year. That’s because Disney has become the perfect mix of thrill rides, shopping, delicious food, and fabulous hotels. You just have to do it the right way!

Timing

When you travel to Disney as adults, you have the luxury of traveling at any time. So, it’s best to avoid school holidays at all costs. And, you should try to visit the parks mid-week to avoid locals hanging in the parks on weekends. Save your weekends for relaxing at the pool or shopping in Disney Springs. Some of the best weeks to go are shortly after the New Year and early September after the school year starts—two time frames when parents are much less likely to take their children out of school.

Location

Disney has a ton of hotels at all different price points spread throughout the different areas of Disney World. For adults traveling without children, I highly recommend choosing a hotel within walking distance of Disney Springs, which has become a huge mecca of restaurants, bars, and shopping. For this trip, we stayed at the Renaissance Disney Springs Resort and Spa. This allowed us to spend the day at the parks, then come back and relax at our hotel before walking down to Disney Springs for drinks and dinner. Yes, there are kids in Disney Springs, but it’s mostly adults if you go to the right bars and restaurants.

Food

That brings me to the next best part of Disney (aside from the parks)—the food! And, if you are traveling to Disney as two child-free adults, you can enjoy some of the best that Disney has to offer.

In Disney Springs, the best restaurant for adults is Wine Bar George, a bustling two-story restaurant serving small plates and an amazing wine selection. You can even put together one or two-ounce pours of special varieties to make your own unique wine flight. Another can’t miss restaurant in Disney Springs is Morimoto Asia. They have an amazing selection of sushi and a variety of Asian dishes and plenty of sake and other fabulous cocktails.

For a true splurge and an unforgettable experience, take an Uber or Lyft to the Grand Floridian Hotel and eat at Victoria and Albert’s.

  • Note: All of Disney’s best restaurants require advance reservations. Many of the Disney Springs restaurants are on OpenTable, so it’s best to book them there because they have a more relaxed cancellation policy than booking directly with Disney.

Even in the cold weather, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park is pure magic.
