The Definitive World Cup 2026 Hotel Guide for Los Angeles
Curator’s statement

Los Angeles is not just hosting the World Cup; it is rolling out the red carpet for it. As the entertainment capital of the world, LA promises a tournament experience defined by Hollywood glamour, perfect weather, and the architectural marvel that is SoFi Stadium. However, Los Angeles is a city of sprawling neighborhoods, not a compact grid. Unlike Boston or New York, where public transit is the default, LA requires a strategic choice: Do you prioritize the ocean breeze of Santa Monica, the manicured luxury of Beverly Hills, or the logistical efficiency of Culver City and Downtown? The reality of LA traffic is unavoidable, but manageable with the right game plan. For the World Cup traveler, I have curated a selection of hotels that refuse to compromise on quality. Whether you want to be poolside in West Hollywood or steps from the Metro in Downtown, this guide ensures your base camp is as world-class as the football on the pitch.

Where to stay in LA for the World Cup

The logistics: Surviving the commute to SoFi Stadium

Let’s be honest: Los Angeles traffic is legendary for a reason. SoFi Stadium is located in Inglewood, roughly 10 miles from the major luxury hubs. On a match day, those 10 miles can feel like 100.

  • The "Metro first" strategy

For 2026, the city is pushing the Metro K Line as the lifeline for fans.

  • The route: The Metro K Line (Crenshaw/LAX) services the Inglewood area.

  • The shuttle: On match days, Metro runs a free, high-frequency shuttle from the Hawthorne/Lennox and Crenshaw stations directly to the stadium gates.

  • Why take it: It is the only way to bypass the gridlock immediately surrounding the stadium.

  • The car/rideshare reality

If you choose to drive or take an Uber/Lyft:

  • Timing: You must leave your hotel 2.5–3 hours before kickoff.

  • The cost: Rideshare surge pricing will be significant.

  • The perk: Air-conditioned privacy. If you are staying in Beverly Hills or West Hollywood, this is likely your only viable option, as public transit connections from these areas are sparse.

Curated sanctuaries for the World Cup traveler

  • The luxe collection: For the traveler who demands Hollywood service, ocean views, or ultimate privacy

    • The Peninsula Beverly Hills
The epitome of 90210 luxury. This is the only hotel in Southern California to hold the AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star title every year since 1993. It feels like a private residence, with lush gardens and a rooftop pool that offers a view of the city’s hills. The service is telepathic.

      • Travel to the arena: The luxe slog. You are committing to a car service. Expect a 60- to 90-minute drive to Inglewood on match day.

    • L’Ermitage Beverly Hills
Discreet, spacious, and incredibly sophisticated. L'Ermitage is famous for its privacy and its massive suites, which are among the largest in LA. It’s less "seen and be seen" than other spots, making it perfect for high-profile guests who want to decompress.

      • Travel to the arena: Car dependent. Similar to the Peninsula, you will need a private transfer. Allow ample time.

    • Hotel Casa del Mar (Santa Monica)
An Italian Renaissance-style palace right on the sand. The lobby lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Pacific, is one of the best spots in the city for a sunset cocktail. It combines the relaxed vibe of the beach with the grandeur of a European estate.

      • Travel to the arena: Scenic but slow. You are roughly 12 miles from SoFi. A car ride will take 45 to 60 minutes, or you can take the Metro E Line to the K Line (requires a transfer, approximately an hour and 15 minutes).

    • Shutters on the Beach (Santa Monica)
Casa del Mar’s breezier, Cape Cod-inspired neighbor, Shutters is an institution. It feels like a grand beach cottage, with white wood paneling, fireplaces in the rooms, and a pool deck that overlooks the bike path. It is arguably the most famous beachfront hotel in LA.

      • Travel to the arena: Same as Casa del Mar. You are paying for the beach morning, not the stadium commute.

    • Conrad Los Angeles (Downtown)
A stunning Frank Gehry-designed masterpiece. Located across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall, this hotel brings a new level of modern luxury to DTLA. The rooftop pool deck offers incredible views of the city skyline, and the rooms are sleek and tech-forward.

      • Travel to the arena: Metro-friendly. This is one of the most strategic luxury picks. You can take the Metro J Line or E Line to connect to the stadium shuttles, bypassing much of the freeway traffic.

  • The mid-level collection: Strategic locations, vibrant design & high standards.

    • The Shay (Culver City)
A "Destination by Hyatt" property that anchors the Ivy Station development. This is arguably the most strategic hotel for the World Cup. It sits right next to the Metro E Line station, giving you rail access to both the beach and downtown, while being physically closer to Inglewood than most other luxury hubs. The design is creative and warm, with a buzzing rooftop bar.

      • Travel to the arena: Strategic gold. You are halfway to the stadium. A short Uber ride or a quick Metro connection puts you at the gates.

    • The Culver Hotel
History meets hospitality. This flatiron-style building is a landmark where the cast of The Wizard of Oz once stayed. It has been beautifully restored with a vintage, speakeasy vibe. Walking distance to Amazon Studios and a plethora of great restaurants in downtown Culver City.

      • Travel to the arena: Excellent. Like The Shay, you are in a prime position to minimize travel time to SoFi.

    • Hotel 850 SVB (West Hollywood)
A hidden gem. Modeled after a European residential hotel, this bungalow-style property feels like staying in a chic friend's guest house. With only 23 rooms and a cozy living room lounge, it offers an intimate escape from the chaos of the Sunset Strip while being just steps away from it.

      • Travel to the arena: Car required. You are in the heart of WeHo. It’s a fun location for nightlife, but you will need to Uber to the match.

  • The reasonable & boutique collection: High ratings, smart value & "insider" appeal

  • The Garland (North Hollywood)
A retro-cool oasis. While located in the Valley (North Hollywood), The Garland is a beloved property with lush grounds, a great pool, and a dedicated trolley to Universal Studios. It embraces a 1970s California aesthetic that feels authentic, not kitschy.

    • Travel to the arena: Metro connection. You are near the Metro B Line (Red), which can connect you down to the stadium lines, though it is a longer journey. Alternatively, a 45-minute drive on weekends.

  • Olivia Hotel (West Los Angeles)
A highly rated boutique finding its stride. Located in West LA, it puts you in a sweet spot between Santa Monica and Beverly Hills without the price tag of either. The decor is modern and nature-inspired.

    • Travel to the arena: Good. You are physically closer to the stadium than the West Hollywood hotels, making the Uber ride shorter and cheaper.

  • citizenM Los Angeles Downtown
Efficient, social, and reliable. You know what you get with citizenM: wall-to-wall windows, huge beds, and a "living room" lobby designed for digital nomads. It’s walkable to Little Tokyo and the Arts District.

    • Travel to the arena: Very good. Proximity to Union Station and Metro lines makes this a smart logistical choice for the fan who plans to use public transit.

Need to know

  • The FIFA Fan Festival™
The official Fan Festival will be held at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Exposition Park. This will be the heartbeat of the tournament outside the stadium, featuring giant screens, concerts, and food festivals. Staying in Downtown LA or Culver City (via Metro E Line) gives you the easiest access to this zone.

  • Book early, plan transport
Los Angeles does not do "last minute" gracefully. Dinner reservations, hotel bookings, and transport plans should be locked in months in advance. If you plan to drive to SoFi, pre-booking a parking pass is mandatory and will likely cost upwards of $100.
