Discover Wellness in Thailand
Curator’s statement

Thailand is a place of contrasts—and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. It’s loud and chaotic, bursting with energy and spice… and then, just as quickly, it reveals a softer side: serene, spiritual, deeply grounding. That tension between vibrancy and calm is what drew me in—and ultimately, what made me fall in love with it.

I spent ten days traveling through Thailand with a focus on wellness—not just in the traditional sense, but in discovering what “wellness” really looks like when woven into everyday life, culture, and travel.

Bangkok

I began in Bangkok, a city that greets you with a rush of sensory overload. Amidst it all, I checked into Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok—a true sanctuary tucked into the leafy enclave of Sindhorn Village, just a short stroll from Lumphini Park. It felt like stepping into a calm exhale. My room—more suite than standard—opened onto a quiet terrace overlooking the park, and every detail, from curated pillow menus to nightly foot bath rituals, reminded me that this was a place designed to restore.

My first morning, I visited Wat Pho, stopping first at the flower market to gather offerings. There’s something incredibly grounding about participating in a ritual that’s been practiced for generations—kneeling in stillness, receiving a monk’s blessing, and beginning the journey with intention. It set the tone for everything that followed.

Wat Pho Buddhas

Back at the hotel, I explored the Sindhorn Wellness by Resense—one of the most impressive urban wellness spaces I’ve experienced. Whether you want a simple massage or a full-day reset, it’s all there. But what stood out most was how seamlessly wellness fits into the lifestyle—Pilates reformer classes, yoga studios, boxing, even muay thai—alongside indulgences like an exceptional breakfast (yes, there’s a fridge full of fresh coconuts) and evenings at the award-winning Firefly Bar, where live jazz drifts through the air. It’s that balance Thailand does so well: nourishment without restriction, wellness without rigidity.

While in Bangkok, I also attended a wellness conference where Jirayut Sruspsrisopa spoke about the future of longevity and Thailand’s growing role as a global wellness destination. It reinforced something I was already starting to feel—this is a place where you can truly design a trip around how you want to feel, not just what you want to see.

Sook Siam

Krabi

From there, I flew south to Krabi, where Thailand reveals another side of itself entirely. Think dramatic limestone cliffs rising out of turquoise water, hidden coves, and long-tail boats skimming across the sea. I stayed at Rayavadee, a magical property tucked into a jungle-fringed peninsula, accessible only by boat and surrounded by three beaches. My two-story pavilion felt like something out of Swiss Family Robinson—especially when I woke each morning to monkeys playfully racing across the roof (a wake-up call I didn’t mind one bit).

One of my favorite days of the entire trip was spent on a private boat, island-hopping through the Andaman Sea—swimming, exploring caves, and taking in the kind of scenery that doesn’t quite feel real. If you go, don’t skip this. It’s the Thailand you dream about.

Hua Hin

After Krabi, I returned to the mainland and drove south to Hua Hin for a completely different experience at Chiva-Som International Health Resort—one of the world’s most renowned wellness retreats. Here, everything begins with intention. You meet with a wellness consultant who helps design your stay around your personal goals, whether that’s rest, detox, fitness, or something deeper.

My days were a blend of movement and stillness—yoga, personal training, treatments, and moments of quiet reflection. You can fill your schedule or leave space to simply be. The cuisine is thoughtfully crafted around wellness principles, though I’ll admit—I couldn’t fully commit to the ultra-disciplined meal plan and happily ventured into town one evening for a vibrant night market and a local Thai dinner. Balance, after all.

I left Chiva-Som feeling lighter—not just physically, but mentally—with a renewed sense of how I want to carry wellness into my everyday life.

Departure

To close out the trip, I returned to Bangkok for one final night at the extraordinary Capella Bangkok. Set along the Chao Phraya River and awarded two Michelin Keys, it’s the kind of hotel that makes you want to cancel your plans and stay in your room just a little longer. Every space faces the water, and the sense of calm is immediate. When I did venture out, I took their private boat shuttle to ICONSIAM, where I wandered through Sook Siam—a beautifully curated indoor market representing all 77 provinces of Thailand.

And then, just like that, it was time to leave.

Thailand stayed with me. Not just for its beauty—which is undeniable—but for its warmth, its generosity of spirit, and the way it invites you to slow down, even in the midst of its energy. It’s a destination that offers more than a vacation—it offers a shift.

If you’ve been thinking about it, this is your sign.

Need to know

A few things to know before traveling to Thailand

  • Thailand is hot—truly hot. Locals joke that there are three seasons: hot, hotter, and hottest. There is also a rainy season, though weather patterns differ between the Gulf and Andaman coasts, so timing and route planning matter more than most people realize.

  • Thailand has become incredibly popular on social media, and certain “TikTok-famous” spots can become extremely crowded during peak hours. Having a knowledgeable guide and thoughtfully planned itinerary makes all the difference in avoiding the crowds and experiencing a more authentic side of the country.

  • Weddings and large celebrations are especially popular at many luxury beach resorts, so it’s always worth checking the resort calendar if you’re hoping for a quieter stay.

  • Thai food is not pretending to be spicy. Even as someone who loves spice, there were dishes that challenged me. Most tourist-oriented restaurants will adjust heat levels, but local spots often won’t—so consider yourself warned!

  • Bangkok is energetic, vibrant, and traffic-heavy. Depending on the season, air quality and smog can occasionally be noticeable, particularly for travelers sensitive to pollution or those with asthma.

  • And finally—prepare to drink more coconuts than you thought humanly possible. They are everywhere, incredibly fresh, wonderfully hydrating, and somehow taste better in Thailand than anywhere else in the world.
