A Couples’ Escape on Celebrity Xcel: Caribbean Sun, Modern Luxury & Time to Reconnect
Curator’s statement

Our anniversary trip on Celebrity Xcel reminded me how restorative a well‑designed, thoughtfully paced vacation can be. We paired the sailing with a pre‑cruise night at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, which set the tone for a relaxed, effortless start. This itinerary gave us the space to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the Caribbean without rushing. It’s a destination and experience I love recommending to couples who appreciate modern design, great food, and a more elevated cruise atmosphere.

We began our trip with a one‑night stay at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, a perfect pre‑cruise option for anyone sailing out of Port Everglades. The waterfront setting, marina views, and easy access from the airport made the transition into vacation mode feel seamless. I always recommend arriving a day early for cruises, and this hotel is a convenient, comfortable choice that keeps the stress level low.

From there, we boarded Celebrity Xcel for a 7‑night Caribbean sailing to celebrate our 10‑year anniversary. We chose this ship because we wanted something elevated, modern, and relaxing—a trip that felt like a true break from everyday life. Xcel delivered exactly that. The ship’s design is warm and contemporary, the service is genuinely attentive, and the overall vibe is sophisticated without being overly formal. It’s a great fit for couples, honeymooners, and adults who appreciate good food, great entertainment, and stylish spaces.

One of the most memorable parts of our experience was staying in an Infinite Veranda stateroom, a feature that tends to spark strong opinions in cruise groups. Instead of a traditional balcony, the entire outer wall becomes a floor‑to‑ceiling window that lowers with the touch of a button, creating an indoor‑outdoor space. We loved it. The extra usable square footage, the quiet privacy, and the panoramic ocean views made it feel like our own little sanctuary. Morning coffee, late‑night conversations, mid‑day breaks—we used the space constantly.

Our Infinite Veranda, the space we used more than any balcony we’ve ever had.

On board, we found ourselves drawn to the entertainment and dining that make Celebrity feel so unique. The Bazaar offered high‑energy performances that were far more immersive than expected, and Captain Kirk’s rock show was a surprisingly fun highlight. We celebrated our anniversary at Le Petit Chef, where the tiny animated chef surprised us with a cupcake—a moment we initially thought was meant for the little boy celebrating a birthday the next day. It ended up being one of those small, sweet touches that made the evening feel personal.

Le Petit Chef’s surprise anniversary moment—a tiny chef with a big personality.

Our itinerary included Puerto Plata, St. Thomas/St. John and St. Maarten. Trunk Bay in St. John’s was easily one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever visited — crystal‑clear water and soft sand that felt almost unreal. In St. Maarten, a last‑minute highlights tour turned into one of our favorite memories thanks to a guide who slowed the bus every time he spotted an iguana so we could take photos. These little surprises—the humor, the warmth, the unexpected moments—added personality to the entire week.

This sailing is ideal for couples, honeymooners, adults who appreciate great food and design, and anyone who wants a cruise experience that feels elevated but still relaxed. Celebrity Xcel strikes that perfect balance between modern luxury and easygoing vacation energy.
