Curator’s statement
Sardinia reveals its most extraordinary side when you approach it by sea. A private, wind-powered sail through La Maddalena gives you access to protected coves and that “no one else around” feeling—without giving up comfort, service, or discretion. It’s the kind of luxury insiders choose: flexible, quiet, and completely tailored to the group. And the perfect contrast is finishing the day in La Maddalena town—promenade, gelato, harbor light—when you decide not to rush back.

One of the most memorable ways to explore northern Sardinia is by private sailing boat, departing from Cannigione, a small harbor town perfectly positioned at the gateway to the La Maddalena Archipelago. Within minutes of leaving the marina, the coastline transforms into a mosaic of turquoise water, granite islands, and hidden coves that are only accessible by sea.

La Maddalena Town
The sailing experience itself is relaxed and intimate. Instead of rushing between crowded beaches, the day unfolds slowly—sailing between islands, anchoring in quiet bays, and swimming in water so clear that the seabed remains visible even several meters below the surface. Stops often include iconic locations such as Cala Coticcio, Spiaggia del Relitto on Caprera, Cala Corsara on Spargi, and the famous Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli.

Glimpse between the vegetation and infinity...
One of the highlights of the day was anchoring in a secluded bay near Redosso, where there were no other boats around us. Lunch was served directly on board—a beautifully prepared spread of fresh seafood, local products, and excellent Sardinian wine. Surrounded by calm water and schools of fish swimming around the boat, the moment felt both luxurious and deeply connected to nature.

Lunch on board with typical local products
In the late afternoon, many guests choose to continue the experience on land by stopping in La Maddalena town. The harbor promenade comes alive at sunset: boutiques open their doors, cafés fill with locals, and gelaterias serve some of the best artisanal gelato in Sardinia. What was originally planned as a quick stop often turns into an unplanned evening stroll followed by dinner—a perfect ending to a day spent between sea and island life.

Real "Gelato Artigianale"
This type of experience is ideal for travelers who want to discover Sardinia beyond the typical beach clubs of Costa Smeralda. Sailing through the archipelago reveals the island’s true identity: wild landscapes, crystalline water, and a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle balanced with understated luxury.
Need to know
The best way to experience the La Maddalena Archipelago is by private boat, ideally departing from Cannigione or Palau. Summer months offer the calmest sea conditions, but June and September are particularly beautiful, with fewer boats and softer light.
A private sailing day typically lasts between six and eight hours and allows flexibility to adapt the itinerary depending on wind and sea conditions. Bringing snorkeling gear is highly recommended, as marine life is abundant in the protected waters of the national park.
For travelers staying along the Costa Smeralda—especially in Porto Cervo, Baja Sardinia, or Poltu Quatu—this experience is easily arranged and represents one of the most authentic ways to discover Sardinia.
