Curator’s statement
My cruise on the Royal Caribbean ship (Voyage on the Sea) was simply spectacular. I went on this trip with my husband and a group of friends. It was a five-day cruise, which set sail from Houston, Texas. However, my article today is on a land stop we made at Costa Maya in Mexico.

Costa Maya-Ancient Mayan Ruins

On Costa Maya, there were several tours, but a few of us decided to go visit the ancient Mayan ruins. To say the least, they were breathtaking. Simply spectacular and almost unbelievable. A lot of them have been overtaken by the rain forest, but they are being revamped. Before you get to them, you will be greeted by people dressed as Mayan warriors.
As you walk through the rain forests, you will see unique trees that have been there for thousands of years. You have to be careful not to trip, as their roots, which may sometimes be as big as branches, are everywhere.

To effectively tour these ruins, you will have to wear very comfortable shoes and clothes. In fact, the largest and most spectacular of these Mayan ruins can only be seen after you climb a platform of over six feet, but when you see it, it's simply amazing.
This unique tour added icing to the cruise. It is an adventure worth undertaking, not only by those who love history or archaeology but also by all and sundry.
Need to know
Taking the Royal Caribbean Cruise from Texas to Mexico was worthwhile, not only because of the staff, food etc. on the ship, but the awesome land stops that the cruise makes in Mexico.
