A Girls’ Getaway: Our Stay at the Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas
Curator’s statement

There is a specific kind of magic in finding a place that feels like a far-away countryside estate while being only ten minutes from a city center. Commodore Perry Estate in Austin is that rare urban sanctuary for me—it’s a 1920s European-inspired oasis created to entertain, inspire, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Whether I’m wandering the gardens or hiding away in a suite, it’s the place I go when I want to feel completely looked after and re-inspired by my surroundings.

The stay

I recently escaped to Commodore Perry with my mother and at the time, my 8-month-old daughter, for our very first girls’ trip! We’ve done Austin dozens of times, so our goal wasn’t to sightsee, it was to retreat. Despite being so close to the downtown buzz, the 10 acre walled grounds make you feel like you’ve retreated to a private manor in the European countryside. Without the 10+ hour flight to get there, yes please!

The hospitality here is felt the moment you arrive, but especially when you walk into your room (if you booked with me!). Waiting for us was a gift of fresh peaches from Fredericksburg—the scent alone was incredible and is a reminder of what peaches are meant to smell like. My daughter could not get enough of them, and I’m already planning our return just to catch peach season again next year.

The Estate welcome

The property itself is a private social club, but as a hotel guest, you are welcomed as an honorary member. This gives you exclusive access to the Mansion and member-only events, making the stay feel less like a hotel and more like being a guest in a very grand, very private home. For dining, lunch on the property was my highlight. Every snack was worth ordering again, but a word of warning: the house-made butter is dangerous in the best way possible.

We stayed at the Inn in a ground-level room with direct courtyard access, which I cannot recommend enough for stroller ease. The staff was so thoughtful, setting us up with a proper crib and plenty of in-room water for my daughters bottles. Having our own private patio meant my mom and I could enjoy the Austin air with a glass of wine while my baby napped just a few feet away.

The notable suites

The Mansion Suites: This is where the history lives. The LaVerne Suite is a personal favorite (and I'm sure you've seen photos circulating on Pinterest!) named after former estate owner LaVerne, who lived on the property with her husband and was key in preserving the estate. Clad in pink Pierre Frey fabrics, it’s the ultimate setting for a solo reset or a girls' getaway. For a more varsity-chic aesthetic, the Edgar Perry Junior Suite is spacious and handsome, making it a great choice for group meetings or leadership retreats.

The Magnolia Suite at the Inn: If you’re traveling as a small family, this is the gold standard. At over 1,000 square feet, it’s the largest one-bedroom suite on the property. The team can actually clear out the dining area to create a completely private nursery for you, and the back-door access allows cars to pick you up directly for total privacy.

The Estate

The Austin edit: In-town favorites

We took advantage of the estate’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz and opted for the brand-new electric G-Wagon for our trips into the city (yes, you get to drive it yourself!). It was incredibly comfortable for a quick run for shopping and bites.

Where to eat

  • The Well: My go-to for a clean, functional lunch that makes you feel amazing.

  • Aba: Go for the Mediterranean vibes and the frozen Greek yogurt. Topped with olive oil and sea salt, it’s the perfect treat in the heat!

  • Austin Proper: I love stopping by the Proper for healthy bites and drinks. Their commitment to seed-oil-free cooking and nutrient-dense ingredients aligns perfectly with a wellness led trip.

  • Sunlife Organics: Best spot for a high-quality smoothie or juice on the go.

  • Soho House: If you’re a member, the Austin house is right next door to some of the best shopping on South Congress.

The wellness protocol

Commodore Perry excels at “Wellness in Nature.” You can join a Pilates, yoga, or barre class in the sun-warmed Solarium or head to the sunken gardens for yoga. They also offer curated experiences like Candlelight Consciousness (guided meditations by candlelight) for a more mindful reset.

If you’re looking for a deeper physical recovery, these are my local non-negotiables.

  • The Tox: The absolute best for lymphatic drainage to de-puff after a flight.

  • The Kollective: A one-stop shop for high-performance recovery. I recommend a workout followed by their sauna, cold plunge, and a session in the recovery boots.

The Kollective recovery

The Tox

For a deep reset, I highly recommend a day pass at Miraval Austin. It’s an all-day retreat with incredible ambiance, food, drinks, and experiences. Make sure to sign up for classes in advance—I’ve loved everything from their astrology workshops to learning how to craft the perfect cocktail (zero-proof available!), to the equine therapy, and of course, their life-changing massages. It’s where I go for my own birthday to truly reflect and recover.

If you’re ready to turn your next getaway into a true wellness reset, I’d love to handle the heavy lifting for you. Email me at brittani.conolty@fora.travel to start planning a trip that leaves you feeling better than when you arrived!
