Hotel Spotlight: My Paris Home in the 9th
Curator’s statement

Paris, je t'aime. I will always come back to you. But, there are a few truths that I hold dear when visiting. First: Don’t overschedule your time. Wander aimlessly and let the city reveal her secrets to you. And second: Stay in a different neighborhood every time. What better way to truly discover the city than to explore the unique character scattered around these individual pockets. But now I’ve found my Parisian pied-à-terre: La Fantaisie Paris.

Every moment spent inside these walls is a fantasy within itself. It is a delight to the senses—every single one of them. The delightful scent that hits you upon entry (blackcurrant, tomato leaf, and cedar, I’m told), the colorful patterns on the botanical walls, the low buzz of the locals who are as awestruck as the lucky travelers staying the night, the textures of the fabrics, and how could we forget about the taste?

I arrived just in time for lunch, and in my small group, we tried a few starters and all the dishes on offer in the café. Think anything from veg-forward—beautifully roasted carrots, a perfect Caesar salad—to my perfectly cooked salmon with a beurre blanc sauce, up to a beautifully rare steak or a creamy mac and cheese for heavier appetites. But be sure to save room for dessert—Chef Remi has some delightful patisserie on offer. And that’s just from the street-facing café.

On the backside of the hotel, there’s a gorgeous restaurant that opens up onto an irresistible garden (courtesy of Martin Brudnizki). Whether you’re here for a scrumptious dinner with wine or the delicious breakfast buffet with a perfect cup of coffee, you are in for a treat. But please, please, please—make sure to check out the rooftop bar. The interior is bathed in a gorgeous floral, pink-and-green-striped motif that feels like a genius collaboration between your grandmother and most stylish girlfriend.

The outdoor terrace has a vibe all its own—couples meeting for afterwork drinks, girlfriends gathering for chic cocktails, work debriefs. Anyone and everyone (and it was quite full for a weekday) belongs here for drinks before dinner. There’s even a slice of the Eiffel Tower, lest you forget you’re in Paris.

The location is a lovely slice of Faubourg Montmartre, a hip neighborhood within easy reach of train stations as well as some of Paris’s greatest monuments, but filled with locals and removed from the main tourist areas. On this street alone, you can visit your local wine shop, cheese house, butcher, or baker.

But for me, the pièce de résistance was the spa. They have four different pools to choose from: cold plunges, mineral water, hot baths, and a jacuzzi, and a hammam and sauna to boot. But—and I say this with complete conviction—my “globetrotter” massage was one of the best treatments I have ever had. It was an absolute dream, and I insist you treat yourself to the fantasy.

Need to know

This location is where the locals will be—away from the main sights but within easy reach. Stay here if you’ve already spent time in the 1st, 4th, & 6th…and thank me for the massage reccomendation!
