Curator’s statement
Beijing is a city that perfectly blends history, culture, and innovation in a way that’s hard to fully grasp until you experience it for yourself. I still remember the feeling of pure awe climbing the Great Wall, but also, appreciation for being able to experience it! Followed by the simple joy of seeing just how adorable pandas are up close, and exploring centuries-old landmarks, each place carried a sense of meaning and legacy that stayed with me. From the rich, flavorful cuisine to the one-of-a-kind architecture, the city felt alive in every moment. I only had time to explore Beijing—but trust me, China has so much more waiting to be discovered.

Great Wall of China (Badaling section)
The Great Wall of China: A World Wonder you’ll never forget
The Great Wall of China is easily one of the most unforgettable experiences—and my personal favorite wonder of the world that I’ve visited thus far. There are several sections you can explore, but the most well-preserved is the Mutianyu Great Wall section, known for its iconic views and easier access.
Be sure to book your visit in advance and, if possible, go with a guide to navigate the area smoothly. I was able to learn a lot of the wall’s history through my guide, and I always felt comfortable knowing someone was there to guide me in the right direction. You can even take a cable car up to the top to save time and energy (highly recommended). The views are incredible, but be careful—the slopes can be steep and slippery.
I personally visited the Badaling section and really enjoyed it, as it allows you to venture in multiple directions along the wall, giving you different perspectives at every turn. It’s one of the more accessible sections, making it a great option if you want a balance between comfort and experience. Walking along it, you truly begin to appreciate the scale and history behind such an incredible structure.

Summer Palace (Long Corridor)
Summer Palace
The Summer Palace felt like stepping into a serene escape, filled with history and intricate beauty at every turn. I visited in March during the colder season, and while it was still beautiful, locals emphasized how much more vibrant it becomes in the summer—just as the name suggests—when the gardens are in full bloom and the lake comes alive (you can even take a boat ride). Walking across the bridges along Kunming Lake, I took in views of traditional temples and the iconic Long Corridor, each detail telling its own story.
I also explored the Dragon Lady’s quarters, learning about its history, which offered a fascinating glimpse into royal life during the last imperial dynasty of China.
Even in the quieter season, the palace felt expansive and peaceful. I’d absolutely return in the summer to experience it at its most colorful and lively.

Need to know
Always keep your passport on you, as it’s required for entry to most attractions and sites.
Download Alipay—it’s used everywhere for payments, tips, and everyday purchases.
Use DiDi for transportation. It’s much more reliable than hailing rides on the street, where prices are often inflated.
