Advisor - Broadway Bound: A Theater Enthusiast’s Guide to New York City
Curator’s statement

I remember seeing New York City for the first time with my family when I was just four or five. From taking in the history of places such as Ellis Island to being mesmerized by the bright lights, eating the perfect crispy slices of pizza, and of course, dreaming of dazzling a crowd on a lit-up Broadway stage, I was hooked. While I never ended up performing on Broadway, I still try to visit the Big Apple at least a few times a year and I can never get over the immense joy and excitement that I feel whenever I step foot in the city with a plan to watch a show, enjoy great food, and soak in all that it has to offer.

See a show

There are so many different types of shows to see on Broadway, from satirical comedies to heart-wrenching dramas and beyond. I would be happy to share some recommendations and get you booked with the perfect show for you!

Stage door

This may be one of the most unique—and free—experiences available in the city. After shows, fans can line up outside of the stage door and although they are not required to, performers often choose to engage in meet-and-greets where they interact with fans, sign merchandise, and take photos as they exit the theater.

Museum of Broadway

If you are interested in theater, this museum is for you! Here you will be immersed in the journey of Broadway from past to present, with authentic costumes and props on display.

Don't forget to check out the shop before you go for exclusive merchandise.

Drama Book Shop

Founded originally in 1917, and now co-owned by Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda, this bookstore is a piece of theater history and is the birthplace of many famous shows. It houses an invaluable inventory of exclusive works and offers an in-house cafe to fuel your reading or writing endeavors.

Theater Circle

This shop, situated in the heart of the theater district, is your one-stop shop for exclusive theater merchandise from shows past and present. Their memorabilia selection includes vintage and new apparel, scripts, books, magnets, and so much more.

Places to eat & drink in New York City

Vegetarian roasted cauliflower from Dolly Varden

  • Dolly Varden: This Roaring ‘20s-themed cocktail bar is my personal favorite spot for after-show drinks and tasty bites. Order a cocktail tree for the table to try a variety of their unique drinks.

  • Sardi’s: An extremely beloved theater restaurant, most recognized for its iconic caricatures of famous theater and Hollywood stars that have visited since its opening in the 1920s.

  • Rosevale Kitchen: This restaurant and cocktail room is decorated with sketches, costumes, props, and other Broadway artifacts. Visit for brunch, a multi-course dinner, or just after-show Broadway-themed specialty cocktails.

  • La Masseria NY: This restaurant is intentionally designed to evoke rural Italian style, nostalgia, and charm. Serving a menu of hearty Southern Italian cuisine and an extensive list of lesser-known wines, the owners use traditional Italian ingredients and cooking methods from where he grew up.

  • Gayle’s Broadway Rose: Aspiring Broadway stars work as servers and put on performances as you eat at this charming restaurant. Visit for a bite to eat to build excitement before a show or after a matinee to keep the energy going.

  • Liberty Bagels: Visit one of the Liberty Bagels locations scattered throughout the city for a quick bite for breakfast. Enjoy fresh hand-rolled bagels and a wide selection of cream cheeses, both sweet or savory, and nondairy.

Need to know

There are a few different ways to get show tickets. I prefer to book ahead online and secure a guaranteed and desired seat, but same-day tickets are also available at the TKTS booth for potentially reduced prices.

Always make a reservation (or have your advisor do so) at your chosen restaurant to ensure a table when you arrive.
