Curator’s statement
Mexico City is one of those places that sweeps you up the moment you arrive. A sprawling, energetic city layered with ancient history and modern creativity, CDMX feels both timeless and cutting-edge at once. I could wander through neighborhoods like Roma and Condesa forever, enjoying the leafy boulevards, boutiques, and cafés. What makes it even better is how easy it is to get to—just a quick, affordable flight from many US cities, which makes slipping away for a long weekend surprisingly doable. It’s the kind of destination that leaves you already planning your next trip on the plane ride home. I know I’ll 100 percent be going back.

Things to do in Mexico City

Teotihuacán
Explore the Centro Histórico: Visit the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and Templo Mayor to see the city’s ancient roots layered beneath colonial architecture. Grab a rooftop drink overlooking the square for the full effect. Then walk down the pedestrian street to shop and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city.
Spend an afternoon in Roma & Condesa: Stroll the leafy streets, stop into design shops and galleries, and café-hop your way through the day. Don’t miss Amsterdam Street, Parque México, and Parque España for the best people (and dog)-watching.
Take a sunrise hot air balloon ride in Teotihuacán: Add a hot air balloon ride to your bucket list and cross it off in CDMX! Just outside the city, these iconic pyramids are a must. See the Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon, on a sunrise hot air balloon ride and learn about one of the most important ancient civilizations of the Americas.
Go to a Lucha Libre show: Going to a lucha libre show in Mexico City is an absolute blast. At Arena México, the energy hits you the second you walk in—vendors selling masks and Micheladas, families cheering, and a crowd fully ready for the chaos. The luchadores flip, fly, and play up their hero-or-villain characters with the perfect mix of athleticism and camp. It’s loud, wild, and ridiculously fun—one of the most entertaining ways to experience the city’s playful side.
Chapultepec Castle: Chapultepec Castle is like stepping into a fairytale perched above the city. Sitting atop Chapultepec Hill, it offers stunning panoramic views of Mexico City and a fascinating dive into the country’s history. Inside, you’ll find lavish rooms, period furniture, and murals that tell the stories of Mexico’s past, from emperors to revolutionaries. The castle grounds are surrounded by lush gardens, making it a perfect mix of culture, history, and scenic beauty—all in one iconic spot you won’t want to miss.
