Curator’s statement
Mexico City has surprise magic. A long weekend in CMDX will let you scratch the surface to experience centuries of history, infamous artistry, and delectable cuisine. The real magic of Mexico City, though, is the people. The people of Mexico City are kind, welcoming, and eager to show off their city.

Day 1: Exploring Reforma & surrounding areas

Monument of the Revolution at sunset
One of the highlights of the trip is visiting the Monument of the Revolution. It is worth the small entry fee to enter the monument and follow the self-guided tour. The staff are friendly and excited to tell you about the history of the building and how it relates to the Mexican Revolution. Make sure to take the elevator to the top for sweeping views of the city. I also recommend checking out the National Palace and Museum, catching some music in Plaza Garibaldi, and perhaps seeing a show at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Day 2: Experience the culture hands-on

Today, start with a visit to a Mexican market, browse the stalls, grab some fresh fruit or nuts, and have a tostada at a food stall. This is a great place to get to interact with the community, meet people, and experience the heart of the city. Fun fact: In Mexico, they feed their chickens marigold to make the meat more yellow than white!
Follow this visit with a cooking class. You can learn from an experienced chef who will teach traditional Mexican dishes. You'll also meet fellow travelers from all over the world and learn so many secrets from their experiences.
In the afternoon, visit the Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe. The original church was built on a lake and it is now sinking! The building itself is beautiful inside and out, and. the severity of the imbalance is also visible from the outside and felt on the inside. Watch your step!
Day 3: Art history & excitement

Mexico City was home to famous artist Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera. Take a bike tour through the beautiful Coyoacán neighborhood and visit the Frida Kahlo Museum. Browse the open-air art market to look for your perfect trip souvenir.
In the evening, if you are looking for a unique experience, catch a lucha libre match at the Arena México! You can book a tour with a former luchador that includes a mezcal tasting, or buy tickets to the match on your own. The identity of a luchador is kept very secret—they do not even tell their friends and family!
Need to know
Try the street food vendors! The food is simple, wonderful, and flavorful. It is busy and chaotic and authentic! It is all part of the wonderful experience that is the magic of Mexico City.
In addition, the public transportation system runs like a well-oiled machine. City buses have their own lane so they can more easily stay on time. It can get very crowded at certain times of the day (such as rush hour), but it is also incredibly inexpensive. Six pesos for a one-way ride on the bus (that's just 35 cents!). Uber is also very popular and helpful in getting to and from the airport with luggage.
Nos vemos en México! Salud!
