Day 1: Arrive in Bali

Gates of Heaven (Lempuyang Temple)

Stay at Maya Ubud Resort & Spa

Overlooking the tranquil Petanu River & next to the jungle, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa is a serene retreat where nature and luxury meet. Relax in beautifully designed rooms, unwind at the spa or yoga pavilion, and let the peaceful surroundings rejuvenate your mind and soul. Every moment here, including jungle walks or visiting the rice terraces, feels like a private escape.

Visit the infamous Gates of Heaven

The Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple is one of Bali’s most iconic sites—I personally confirm that it’s a must-see. The view is breathtaking and truly unforgettable, and it makes you feel incredibly special just to be there. Visit during the off-peak months of January to March to skip the long queues and soak in the magic. Feel free to tip the local who helps capture your iconic Gates of Heaven photo!

Venture to Tirta Gangga Water Palace

Without a doubt, one of my favorite spots in Bali! The Water Palace is such a beautiful sight to see with its peaceful pools, fountains, and lush gardens. You can also feed the colorful fish, which makes the visit even more enjoyable.

Swim at Goa Rajo Waterfall

The sound of cascading water instantly relaxes you at Goa Rajo Waterfall—close your eyes and just take in the moment. At the base, there’s a natural spring pool where you can take a refreshing dip alongside locals. It’s the perfect spot to experience Bali’s peaceful, natural beauty before you head back to your resort (around 5 p.m.).

Day 2: Explore what Ubud has to offer

Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah)

Water purification ceremony at Tirta Empul

Participate in Tirta Empul’s Water Purification Ceremony by first renting a sarong and locker, then making an offering (approximately 20k IRD), and finally stepping through the sacred pool’s fountains while asking for good karma, positivity, and blessings. It’s a meaningful way to connect with Bali’s spiritual traditions.

Visit Goa Gajah and the rice fields of Tegalalang

Goa Gajah, or the Elephant Cave, is an ancient temple from the 11th century with intricate stone carvings, and peaceful gardens. The rice fields of Tegalalang are among Bali’s most highly-recommended rice terraces, creating stunning views for the perfect photo!

Shop at Ubud Center

Explore local stores for fresh fruits, souvenirs, or even a tattoo. Grab a bite at Tropical Restaurant—don’t miss their tasty mussels!

Then get ready for a traditional Balinese dance performance at Ubud Palace, usually starting around 7 p.m.

A note from Kristina

Tip: Maya Ubud Resort & Spa has a free shuttle to Ubud Center, but the drop-off location is about a 15-minute walk to the heart of the center. A grab costs under $5 CAD.

Day 3: Sunrises, spa days & island nights

Mount Batur

Chasing sunrises: Mount Batur edition

Wake up at dawn to catch the sunrise, but be sure to pack very warm clothing—it gets chilly at the high altitude. Prepare to see one of the most beautiful sights in Bali, where the fresh air at Mount Batur will rejuvenate your mind and body. Similar to the Water Palace, one of my other favorite places on the island!

Relax at the spa

You can’t visit Bali without experiencing a Balinese massage! The spa services are very cost-effective but still offer an excellent experience. I personally recommend Bliss Spa in Ubud, which also has showers if you want to freshen up after your treatment.

Party at Finn’s Club

No entry fee at the infamous Finn’s Club—grab a drink at the bar, then dance the night away! The guests are friendly and create a fun, lively atmosphere. It’s about 1.5 hours from Ubud, so plan to leave between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Day 4: Jungle adventures

Monkey encounters in Ubud

First, head to Monkey Forest in the morning to beat the crowds and see the monkeys up close. You’ll spot them swinging from tree to tree, and often with their families, which makes the experience even more memorable. Keep your belongings close and bring a small bag, as they can be curious—if they start touching you, stay calm, avoid eye contact, and keep moving.

Swing high in the jungle

Another infamous Instagram shot! Get excited for the Jungle Swing, where you can soar high above Bali’s beautiful treetops. The views are breathtaking, with rice terraces and jungle greenery down below for you to see. It’s a thrilling experience that’s both fun and unforgettable.

Nightcap in Ubud

If you’re still in the mood for some excitement and good music, end the night at The Blue Door Club near Ubud Centre after dinner.

Day 5: Island escape on Nusa Penida

Angel’s Billabong

Experience the beauty of Nusa Penida by visiting three stunning beaches: Angel’s Billabong, Broken Beach, and Kelingking Beach.

You’ll take a boat ride and car ride to reach the island, approximately 2–3 hours, and don’t forget sunscreen—it gets very hot.

Make sure to stop at D’MM Penida Restaurant for the best crispy calamari before ending the day swimming at Crystal Beach—waves are strong, so stay safe!

Need to know

If you’re wondering what to tip: tip tour guides anywhere between 50- 100k IDR. They are very helpful, will take all of your pictures, and don’t be afraid to ask for an itinerary adjustment.
