Curator’s statement
I spent 3 days in LA for a design convention and cannot wait to go back. From a Tuesday to Thursday evening, it was just not enough to take in the full personality of Los Angeles. The taste of it that I received during this trip has me wanting more. With limited time, and much to do, I was able to take a few hours to visit Santa Monica Beach and catch the most surreal view of the sunset.

Things to do in Los Angeles

Brunch at The Butcher's Daughter
My sister and I stayed at The Line Hotel, a minimalistic yet chic boutique hotel branded by a collective of artists. With them being a preferred partner with Fora, we were able to upgrade our room to one with a view, have a late check-out and a $25 voucher to use per day.
The hotel offered experiences like a happy hour, artist talks, gallery visits and the ambiance of the restaurant on the grounds is extremely tranquil. If you appreciate lighting, you'd love it here. In terms of food, experiences that stood out the most to me during this trip were stopping by Hilltop Cafe for breakfast, and the Butcher's Daughter for brunch.
For Hilltop Cafe, my sister and I both ordered the iced Matcha-chata with oat milk, which is a blend between a matcha latte and a horchata, and it was amazing. If you're not a fan of matcha, their selection of handcrafted drinks is pretty expansive. For my meal, I ordered the breakfast bowl, with scrambled eggs, rice, beans and avocado and I'd rate it a 10 out of 10 for flavor, but the portion was sort of light. Regarding The Butchers Daughter, we've tried their Williamsburg, New York location, and just had to add it to our itinerary for LA. Being dairy-free, the options here spoil me in the best way. I ordered the Waffle with strawberries, pistachios and dairy-free whipped cream, with a side of eggs scrambled with spinach. This location was quiet during the time we were there, and fairly spacious with options for both indoor and outdoor seating. With some extra time to spare, and it being our first time in the city, we decided to check how far Beverly Hills was from where we were in West Hollywood, and since it was a 20 minute drive, we made our way there to explore the town.
We simply went on our own random excursion to follow the hills we were approaching as we drove, until we decided there was no real "science" behind what we were doing. We saw beautiful homes, and palm trees until we decided to recalibrate and look into visiting Santa Monica Beach. The drive was about 30–45 minutes, and it was worth it. We spent time catching the sunset before having a brief walk down the boardwalk and then going to grab pasta. The food options along this strip are extensive, and there are several hotels in the same vicinity that we partner with that are overlooking the beach.

Need to know
Having a rental was probably one of the most helpful things for us in terms of getting around. However, parking can be a bit tricky. Keep in mind that you may have to factor in meter or parking garage fees when traveling through busier cities in Los Angeles. Instead of this, the $25 voucher per day came in handy in the end, as we could use that towards parking at the hotel.
