Curator’s statement
When bringing my teens to Europe for the first time, we thought exploring parts of England made the most sense. It proved to be the most brilliant experience we have shared as a family to date.

Things to do in England

We walked and Tubed all of London. Our favorite days included the amazing food and culture of Chinatown, catching a matinee of Wicked, and stumbling upon a small shop near Buckingham Palace that did old-timey photos, which will forever inspire laughs and memories. Borough Market food heaven is an absolute must.
Bath, being a smaller city, was a great segue between busy London and the slower country pace of the Cotswolds. In Bath, the shops were delightful, along with a visit to the The Royal Crescent to warm up with some cream tea.
The Cotswolds is slow-paced magic—delightful countryside wanderings, shops, tasty treats, and historic stays. If you have an extra night, visiting Stonehenge is an experience worth making time for.
Places to eat & drink in England

Fish and chips at The Ship Tavern
London’s glowing, lantern-lit Chinatown had the most delectable Peking duck and noodle soup at Four Seasons.
Borough Market is a maze of mouthwatering delights—it's easy to lose your self sampling the amazing paella, mac and cheese, a cold glass of lavender lemonade, and some sweet pastries or chocolate-covered strawberries.
For a legit pub experience, The Ship Tavern is the move for a cold beer and scrumptious warm meal—they serve the classics but also delicious and elevated family-friendly options. Our hotel concierge sent us here after a nine-plus-hour flight to Heathrow from LAX, when we were starving and wanted to jump straight into the classic pub meal. We shared the obvious choice of fish and chips but also pasta and a delicious sliced steak accompanied by some Guinness and cider.
A stop for Indian cuisine is an absolute must. Yes, you can enjoy the upscale, bustling, and fab Dishoom, but we preferred more low-key family establishments as well. Naan at The Copper Chimney in Notting Hill area...yummm!
Need to know
Our family thrives on a mix of planned activity and freedom to explore. We walked and walked and walked some more. Stop for cream tea when a rest is needed and keep going after that. Take your time and explore—there is so much to see and do that I am certain every family experiencing England for the first time can find a great groove.
