Advisor - Aruba Awaits: One Happy Island Elevated
Curator’s statement

Why Aruba? Aruba is nicknamed “One Happy Island” and it is truly just that. It is a year-round destination known for its pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, upscale resorts and warm hospitality. With constant trade winds, low humidity (low 80’s year-around) and being outside the hurricane belt, Aruba is a great destination year-round for couples, solo travelers and families looking for elevated experiences. The island offers a blend of Dutch-Carribean culture, high-end shopping, adventure excursions and low-crime.

Things to do on Aruba

Flamingo Beach on Renaissance Private Island: if you are staying there the trip is included but if you are not you can book a day pass if space permits. You can hand feed flamingos, get some memorable photos, enjoy overwater hammocks or a luxurious spa cabana experience. They also have a great restaurant on the island with a family friendly beach that is separated from the Flamingo side.

Sunset catamaran sail: Open bar and hor d’oeuvres as you sail along the Aruban coast. They offer romantic sunset cruises or a champagne brunch sail where you will have some unforgettable ocean views and lots of great photo ops.

Private chef experience: Totally tailored menus are customized to your preferences, dietary needs and favorite flavors and prepared by a private chef who comes to your villa, suite or even a beachfront setup. Perfect for proposals, anniversaries, birthdays or just because! Many chefs offer a “chef’s table” experience where they walk you thru the ingredients and preparation which is a foodie's dream! You can also upgrade to include wines or signature cocktails to accompany your meal.

Jeep tours: Arikok National Park which is a protected area covering 20% of the island is a great place for nature lovers and photographers. It has a natural pool which is a secluded swimming spot surrounded by volcanic rock - only reachable by off-road vehicles. You can swim and snorkel while the waves crash nearby. You can explore the caves and also a couple of iconic stops - California Lighthouse and Dunes (great photo stop at sunset and great Italian restaurant on the property). Alto Vista Chapel and Natural Bridge ruins for a historical and spiritual stop with great history. The Natural Bridge is collapsed but is still a scenic spot and great photo op. They offer private tours, small groups or sunset options.

Places to eat & drink on Aruba

Faro Blanco: Near the California Lighthouse, they have breathtaking views alongside Italian fare. The menu has an emphasis on traditional dishes, complemented by an extensive wine selection. Great spot for sunset (reservations in advance are recommended), romantic dinner or special occasion.

Papiamento Restaurant: This is a historic garden setting where you dine under the stars in the courtyard of a 126-year old Aruban home. Fusion of European and Caribbean flavors with a top-tier wine list. The signature dish is filet mignon and lobster tail.

El Gaucho: Argentinean steakhouse, which has been an Aruba staple since 1977. They have generous portions and traditional grilled meats. Experiences do vary, but we love the nostalgic charm and hearty portions.

BLT Steak at the Ritz-Carlton: They have the best Gruyere cheese popovers that keep me going back over and over. They are served warm at the beginning of your meal and they are delicious. This is a great dining experience blending classic steakhouse with a modern bistro ambiance. It is also complimented by ocean views, several steak cuts, seafood and a robust wine list. Great for special occasions.

Zeerovers: For a local no-frills option. It offers ultra-fresh seafood served dockside, and the catch comes from the local fisherman. Fried fish (catch of the day), shrimp, plantains and pan bati (Aruban corn bread). This is a casual, waterfront, cash-only option with great sunset views.

Need to know

Aruba is easy to drive and super safe. Rent a car or jeep and have the freedom to explore hidden beaches, local food spots and natural sites at your own pace.

Book popular activities in advance, for example, private catamaran sails, Flamingo Beach and dinner at Fred or Senses.

Go beyond the hotel zone: San Nicolas for street art, local bites and a more cultural vibe or Savaneta for quiet beaches and authentic seafood.

Don’t leave without trying local dishes: keshi yena (stuffed cheese), pastechi (savory pastries) or goat stew.

Remember reef-safe sunscreen: Local shops will carry it but cheaper and easier to pack your own.

Don’t skip the sunrise: Everyone talks about the sunsets, but Aruba’s sunrises, especially from Eagle Beach or Arashi Beach, are peaceful and photo-worthy.

Plan for the wind: Aruba's trade winds are strong year-round. But remember your hair ties, light layers and secure hats and sunglasses for boat rides or open-air dining. April is especially windy.

Learn a few Papiamento phrases: locals love this! Bon dia (good morning) Danki (thank you) or Ayo (goodbye) goes a long way.
