Advisor - Iceland: The Ultimate Guide to the Land of Fire & Ice
Curator’s statement

Iceland is a dream destination that perfectly aligns with the type of travel I live for—immersive, elevated, and unforgettable. Iceland is not only unique, but it is also otherworldly. From black sand beaches to steaming geothermal pools, Iceland offers some of the most surreal natural backdrops on earth. It’s the kind of place where every turn feels like a cinematic moment—perfect for anyone who travels with their eyes wide open. The contrast of fire and ice and volcanoes and glaciers creates an epic energy that’s raw, rare, and, as my clients tell me, unforgettable.

Things to do in Iceland

Immersing in Iceland’s pristine wilderness on an intimate guided boat tour, gliding by the serene beauty of Fjallsjökull Glacier Lagoon.

1. Soak in the Blue Lagoon

Touristy? Yes, but it's necessary. I've been to Iceland three times and I've headed to the Blue Lagoon for a morning session each time to soak in the iconic, milky-blue geothermal waters surrounded by black lava fields. For a luxury upgrade, let's book you the Retreat Spa experience with private lagoons, in-water treatments, and a serene subterranean spa.

2. Chase waterfalls on the South Coast

Visit stunning waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss (which you can walk behind) and Skógafoss, where mist and rainbows dance in the spray. The drive itself is dotted with jaw-dropping scenery. Tip: There are waterfalls nearby these hot spots that you can enjoy without the tour buses swarming and crowds of people.

3. Drive the Golden Circle

Explore Iceland’s most iconic day trip route from Reykjavík, featuring tectonic rift valleys, erupting geysers, crater lakes, and thundering waterfalls—all easily explored in a single, scenic loop.

4. Snorkel in between the tectonic plates

Hop into a dry suit and experience the snorkel of a lifetime in the clearest fresh water on earth in the Silfra Fissure between the Europe and Asia continental plates.

5. Take an ice cave super jeep tour

While passing through the south coast town of Vik, take a super jeep tour exploring the backcountry of black volcanic sand and a glacial cave on the Katla volcano. Get those crampons in place!

6. Explore Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach

I book no trip to Iceland without advising the glacial lagoon boat ride, kayak tour (seasonal), and ice cave hike. It is one of my favorite excursions to date! Tip: If you prefer the boat tour, I recommend Fjallsjokull Glacial Lagoon for a more personalized experience where the tour buses don't go.

7. Discover the Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Nicknamed "Iceland in miniature," this region packs in waterfalls, lava fields, sea cliffs, and charming fishing villages. Don't miss Kirkjufell, one of the country’s most photographed peaks. (This is what you see on the side of a bus!)

8. Ring Road Circuit/North Coast

If I am curating your Ring Road road trip, the North Coast is the path less traveled and offers a more off-the-beaten-path experience with dramatic fjords, charming towns like Akureyri and Húsavík, volcanic landscapes, and some of the country’s best whale watching and geothermal baths.

9. Experience a helicopter tour

Hover above Iceland and enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime perspective of the island’s raw beauty—soaring over glaciers, volcanoes, black sand beaches, and steaming geothermal landscapes with exclusive landings in places untouched by roads or crowds.

10. Explore Reykjavik’s creative scene

I usually advise ending the itinerary in the main city as it is full of charm, color, and culture. Browse design shops, eat at Michelin-recognized restaurants, and soak in city views from Hallgrímskirkja or the Sky Lagoon, Reykjavik’s stylish new geothermal spa.

Places to eat & drink in Iceland

Strolling down the old harbor in Reykjavik discovering authentic seafood houses

1. Smidjan Brugghús (Vík)

Craving a burger? This popular brewpub located in a distinctive blue building in the heart of the village is known for its exceptional burgers and house-brewed craft beers. It's a favorite among both locals and travelers. After a morning excursion at the Katla volcano, these burgers hit the spot!

2. The Soup Company (Vík)

Searching for that no-frills spot beloved by locals? The Soup Company serves hearty homemade soups, fresh bread, and Icelandic comfort food—perfect after a day exploring the nearby black sand beaches and waterfalls.

3. Sushi Social

A hip, vibrant spot blending Japanese flavors with Icelandic ingredients, Sushi Social offers fresh sushi with creative twists in a lively, stylish setting—perfect for a fun night out that’s a little different from the usual Reykjavik dining scene. Don't forget to check out the cool bathroom.

4. Bjargarsteinn Mathús (Stykkishólmur)

If I have you exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, here is your local family-run spot. You're welcome.

5. Friðheimar Tomato Farm

A gorgeous greenhouse restaurant where you can dine among tomato plants and sip Bloody Marys made with Icelandic-grown produce. A hidden gem for foodies that unfortunately has turned into a tourist trap—but it's still cool.

6. The Laundromat Cafe

Grab brekkie or lunch in this colorful diner-style cafe that has a working laundromat in the basement.

7. Kopar Restaurant

Stroll in as you're walking through the old harbor, and enjoy Kopar's fresh take on Icelandic seafood with bold flavors and a cozy ambiance. It’s popular with locals for its quality and authenticity, but it still feels intimate and under the radar.

Need to know

Iceland is where wild beauty meets refined experience—and that’s exactly why it speaks to my soul.

From soaking in private hot springs beneath the Northern Lights to staying in design-forward lodges carved into lava fields, this destination isn’t just a trip—it’s a transformation.

Iceland is for the traveler who craves the extraordinary, with just the right touch of elevated comfort. For those who want to slow down, tune in, and experience something real—yet completely surreal.
