Bocas del Toro is a small island off the coast of Panama that is known for having incredible beaches, culture, food, and nature. While there, we saw howler monkeys, sloths, and incredible fauna. Things to do in Bocas del Toro, Panama

Red Frog Beach

This is my favorite beach by far in Bocas del Toro. You need to get a water taxi from the main town area and then pay a small fee to access the beach. To get to the beach, there is a short jungle hike that is doable for any activity level, but keep your eyes open as you might see wildlife!

Surf lessons

One of the most memorable experiences on Bocas was taking surfing lessons. There are a lot of popular surf breaks around the island, so it was fun to get to experience it as well—albeit in a much less intense way for just an intro lesson!

Starfish Beach

This is a very quiet beach with hardly any waves, so it's great for all ages. As the name suggests, the beach has a ton of starfish of all different sizes. Definitely worth bringing some snorkel gear for!

Snorkeling

Bring snorkel gear to enjoy swimming all over the island and seeing cool fish and coral reefs!

Scuba diving

If you want to kick it up a notch, there is also a lot of diving you can do to see even more of the unique biodiversity the island has to offer!

Places to eat & drink in Bocas del Toro, Panama

Skully’s

Skully’s is a beach bar done to perfection. There are hammocks above the water, swings, a pool, and even pool tables and ping pong. Great spot to grab a drink and hang out for an evening.

La Coralina Beach Club

Amazing food right on the water of a well-known surf break. It’s a great spot to relax, grab a bite to eat, and watch surfers go.

Arboloco

This is a must-visit restaurant. Arboloco blends African and Caribbean cuisine for unique and delicious flavors. The indoor-outdoor seating and restaurant atmosphere are incredible for a fancy night out.

La Buga Gastro Market

Similar to the island’s version of a food truck market, La Buga Gastro Market has a variety of menus, from seafood to Italian food to burgers and more. It’s a great spot that will have something for everyone.

Restaurant Al Forno Alegna Pizzeria

If you’re craving thin-crust pizzas with lots of variety, then you have to get pizza at Al Forno Alegna Pizzeria!

Need to know

Planning is important when booking a trip to Bocas del Toro. Since it is off the mainland of Panama, you first have to fly into Panama City and then fly to Bocas town. It’s recommended to leave a day in between arriving in Panama and your flight to Bocas (and the same going home) since there is only one flight per day each way to Bocas del Toro. Plan a nice evening in Panama City and then hop over to Bocas to enjoy incredible beaches, nature, and food.
