Advisor - Arizona: Desert Dreams & Grand Adventures
Curator’s statement

Arizona is your future desert oasis, where sun-drenched landscapes meet wild adventure. From the mystical red rocks of Sedona to the buzzing charm of Scottsdale, this desert state offers more than just heat—it’s a full-on vibe. As your trusted travel advisor, I have personally explored the state with both a wanderer’s heart that took me to the slot canyons off Lake Powell and a planner’s eye that scheduled a heli-tour for a bird’s eye view of the Sedona red rocks. After all, I left NYC and bought a home in Scottsdale because there’s something special about the desert. Here’s how to do Arizona right.

Things to do in Arizona

Kayaking Lake Powell

  • Kayak or paddleboard on Lake Powell: Glide through emerald waters surrounded by sandstone cliffs on a guided tour that takes you to hidden coves or slot canyons. I have done this tour about three times because the views are unmatchable. PS: Pack snacks because the waves from boaters on your way back will have your arms working OT.

  • Tee off at Scottsdale’s desert golf courses: Arizona is a golfer’s paradise, and Scottsdale is the crown jewel. Treat yourself to The Short Course at Mountain Shadows Resort and, if you’re lucky like me, maybe you will make par on your 18th hole!

  • Spa time: Unwind at one of the Phoenix Valley’s world-class desert spas. It is hard to narrow them down because all the resorts have amazing spas, but I’ve sent my family and friends to the spa at The Princess, and they had zero complaints.

  • Experience the Grand Canyon: There is no canyon grander! Explore the rim on a bike, hike down into one of the world’s iconic wonders, or hop on a heli and take your views to new levels. My last trip to the GC was a stop-by on my way up to Page, so instead of looking over the edge, snapping a photo, and going on with our day, I scheduled a two-hour self-guided bike rental on the Rim Trail, which I totally recommend—views and an activity that doesn't take too long all in one shot.

  • Off-Road in Sedona’s red rocks: Take a Pink Jeep Tour or rent your own 4x4 ATV to experience unmatched red rock views.

  • Hot-air balloon ride: I spent the morning of my 37th birthday soaring over the Sonoran Desert, and it was the perfect day to start feeling on top of the world.

  • Stargaze in Saguaro National Park or while glamping near the Grand Canyon. I’ve stayed at both UnderCanvas GC and the new Clearsky Resort and let me tell you, I totally understand why it is considered International Dark Sky–certified. I felt like I was a speck inside a planetarium once the sun had set. It was incredible, and staying in the Sky Dome with a ceiling peephole made lying in bed under the stars even more memorable.

  • Descend into Antelope Canyon’s iconic slots (photo ops) and feel like you are on another planet. Pair this with a visit to Horseshoe Bend after (you can go off the beaten path and kayak Horseshoe Bend on a guided tour as well).

  • Hike: Anywhere—the fan-loving trail list is endless! One of my favorites is Pinnacle Peak Trail near North Scottsdale—it’s also very close to the Four Seasons at Troon North. You can check out all the mansions as you ascend on the train and can grab a cocktail at the Four Seasons after as your post-hike treat!

  • Enjoy authentic Mexican food in Tucson: Who doesn’t love tacos?

Charcuterie snacks after kayaking Lake Powell

  • The Hudson: A Sedona eatery with a relaxed vibe and red rock terrace seating. Try the grilled salmon salad.

  • Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill: A cliffside dining experience. Go at sunset and enjoy a sunset cocktail and order the elote!

  • The Mission (Old Town Scottsdale): You must try the pork shoulder tacos and the margarita flight.

  • Di Maggio's: Owner Brandon (a fellow New Yorker) knows all the key ingredients in EVERY dish to trick your palate into thinking you’re in Italy.

  • Mulligan’s Pub & Patio: Located in Page, AZ. Dine in the clubhouse and make sure you ask for Joseph to be your bartender. There’s nothing better than a bartender who is excited to handcraft your unique cocktail to enjoy after a day of exploration.

  • Culinary Dropout: Need a go-to hot spot? You’ll thank me after. There are several locations around the valley. Don’t forget to sip on the Tijuana spa water—I’m thinking about that refreshing cocktail right now!

Need to know

Arizona is best explored by car, and driving between regions is part of the experience. Spring, fall, and winter offer the perfect weather. Need help planning your desert escape? Well, you're in great hands, as I specialize in curated itineraries that blend memorable stays, local flavor, and unforgettable moments.
