Curator’s statement
Stockholm feels special to me because it blends timeless elegance with a sense of calm that is hard to find in other capital cities. I have been living in Stockholm, Sweden, for 14 years and counting. The city’s design-forward hotels—from Ett Hem and Villa Dagmar to Hotel Diplomat, Lydmar Hotel, and Nobis Hotel Stockholm—reflect the sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere that makes the destination so memorable. I love how Stockholm pairs beautiful waterfront scenery, rich culture, and exceptional style with a pace that encourages travelers to truly slow down and enjoy it. It’s the kind of place that feels polished, inspiring, and deeply personal all at once.

Things to do in Stockholm

Wander Gamla Stan: I never get tired of walking through Gamla Stan, even after living in Stockholm for 14 years and counting. Its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and historic charm always remind me why this city feels so special.
Visit the Vasa Museum: I always recommend the Vasa Museum because it is one of those places that feels just as fascinating the first time as it does on return visits. It offers such a unique glimpse into Swedish history and is one of Stockholm’s most memorable cultural experiences.
Explore Djurgården: Djurgården is one of my favorite places to slow down and enjoy the beauty of Stockholm. I love that it combines waterfront views, peaceful green space, and some of the city’s best museums all in one area.
Take a boat ride through the archipelago: One of the things I love most about Stockholm is how connected life here is to the water. A boat ride is one of my favorite ways to experience the city and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds it.
Enjoy a long lunch or Fika: I always encourage travelers to make time for a long lunch or a classic Swedish fika. It is one of the best ways to slow down, settle into the local rhythm, and enjoy Stockholm the way I have come to love it over the years.
Discover Stockholm’s design and shopping scene: I love recommending Stockholm for its effortlessly stylish design scene. From fashion to interiors to beautifully curated boutiques, shopping here always feels inspiring and very true to the city’s Scandinavian identity.
Visit the Royal Palace and historic landmarks: Even after many years of living here, I still appreciate how much history is woven into Stockholm’s everyday beauty. Visiting the Royal Palace and other historic sites adds so much depth and context to the experience of the city.
Walk along the waterfront: One of my favorite simple pleasures in Stockholm is just walking along the water. It is calming, beautiful, and one of the things that has made living here for 14 years feel so special.
Experience Stockholm’s hotel and spa scene: I love that Stockholm’s luxury feels understated, calm, and deeply thoughtful. A beautiful hotel stay or relaxing spa experience is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the city at a slower, more restorative pace.
Take in the city at sunset: There is something so beautiful about Stockholm in the evening light. Watching the sun reflect off the water and the rooftops is one of those moments that still feels magical to me, even after all these years.
Places to eat & drink in Stockholm

Ett Hem: I love recommending Ett Hem when I want a dining experience that feels intimate, beautifully designed, and distinctly Stockholm. Its kitchen focuses on local, seasonal produce, and the whole experience feels warm, polished, and deeply personal.
Ekstedt: This is one of my favorite recommendations for travelers who want a meal that feels truly memorable. Everything revolves around fire here, with contemporary food inspired by Swedish flavors and seasonal ingredients, which makes it feel both dramatic and very rooted in place.
Vete-Katten: I always suggest Vete-Katten for a classic Stockholm fika moment. It has that timeless pastry-shop atmosphere I love, and it is perfect for coffee, pastries, and slowing down in the middle of the day.
Operakällaren: When I want to recommend somewhere elegant and iconic, Operakällaren is always high on my list. It blends historic grandeur with modern gastronomy, making it ideal for a special night out in Stockholm.
Tjoget: I love Tjoget for a more relaxed but still very stylish food-and-drink experience. It has a world-class bar and a lively neighborhood feel, which makes it a great choice for cocktails and a fun evening out.
Café Nizza: This is one of my favorite spots when I want something that feels effortlessly cool and current. Even though it is temporarily closed right now, it is normally a beautiful choice for a long lunch or dinner with a chic, European feel.
Othilia at Operakällaren: For cocktails, I love places that feel refined without being too formal, and Othilia has that balance. It feels elegant, inviting, and perfect for travelers who want a sophisticated drink in a beautiful setting.
Lydmar Hotel: I often recommend Lydmar not just as a place to stay, but also as a great setting for a drink or relaxed meal. It has a stylish, social atmosphere that feels very Stockholm and works well whether you want something easygoing or a little more elevated.
Need to know
Stockholm is best enjoyed at a slower pace, with time to walk, take ferries, and enjoy long fika breaks between the major sights. The season and daylight can shape the experience quite a bit, so I always recommend planning with that in mind and packing for the weather. Some of the most memorable parts of Stockholm are the simple ones, so leave room in your itinerary to just enjoy the water, neighborhoods, and atmosphere.
