Curator’s statement
Marfa is a place where beauty, solitude, strong winds, and sun come together across the Texan desert. Where exceptional art, books, food, and people feel connected. There is an amazing culture, true to the West, but also fueled by creativity and individual expression. It is special to me because there is so much to discover as you explore the little town. The conversations with people, all extremely kind and engaging, add to an understanding of the accepting and creative culture that exists in Marfa.

Things to do in Marfa

Among the art are artisans that share their works—like the owners of Garza Marfa, who design textiles and furniture.
Visit art installations: Prada Marfa and the Giant are both free-standing installations in the desert.
Ballroom Marfa: An internationally recognized contemporary art museum with a mission to support artists and advocate for the freedom of artistic expression.
The Chinati Foundation: Contemporary art museum located at a former military base that was also one used as a POW camp during WWII. Established by the artist, Donald Judd, it houses large-scale works of art.
Visit the local galleries in town that feature photography, furniture, paintings, drawings, and works by local artists.
Have a drink or two at the Marfa Spirit Company, a laid-back local bar serving seriously good cocktails and their special liquors and Sotol.
Stop for a coffee, breakfast, or lunch at the Sentinel, while also exploring their books and home goods. The posole (traditional Mexican soup), chocolate cake, and coffee were all delicious.
Visit the local stores. Especially Garza Marfa, a shop filled with gorgeous, colorful textiles and furniture designed by the super-friendly owners.
Eat dinner at Cochineal, Marfa’s finest dinner experience. The menu is built around locally grown and sourced ingredients. The space is cozy and contemporary, and every bite feels fresh and intentional. Make a reservation.
Stop by Cactus Liquors, a must for tequila lovers. Their collection is extensive, impressive, and genuinely fun to browse—whether you’re buying or just looking.
