Advisor - A Guide to Little Rock & Conway, Arkansas
Curator’s statement

Last fall my oldest child went about five hours away to a university in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. When I visit her on weekends or for special events, I thought it was important to get to know the city and area. It prompted me to research the area and identify some of my favorite places to go and things to do when visiting.

Things to do in Arkansas

Visit Downtown Little Rock: Although small in comparison to the major city I’m from, it has a vibrant night life with plenty of things to do. There are art festivals, consignment shops and boutiques. I also enjoyed driving around to view the architecture of the old historical buildings and homes.

I recommend taking a tour at Rock Town Distillery, even if you’re not a beer drinker. It’s an enjoyable and interesting experience that’s worth it.

Museums: Visit the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, which is a remarkable display of “Bill” Clinton’s time as our 42nd President. From there, if you’re into nature, visit the Presidential Park Wetlands or go over to Two Rivers Park, to walk, ride bikes or view the scenery of the water.

Places to eat & drink in Arkansas

I’m a true coffee lover. One of the things I always do when traveling is look for a local coffee shop. Two of my favorites in the Little Rock area is Nexus Coffee which is a small cafe in the downtown area. During my last visit to the area, I left with a bag of dark roast whole beans, which were absolutely amazing.

Another must-see is Sterling Market, which is a small food space that serves a variety of things like pastries, coffee, sandwiches and salads. It's a great breakfast choice and of course for coffee.

Level Ground Coffee is another hidden gem in downtown Conway that’s perfect for stopping in for studying or quiet reading time.

Need to know

Little Rock and Conway are great cities full of lots of history. If you enjoy nature, I would suggest taking some time to visit the parks and spend a day canoeing. They have a number of non-chain restaurants so would recommend spending time researching those as well. Something to keep in mind is that businesses do close fairly early on weekdays and some weekends, so plan accordingly.
