Curator’s statement

Australia! If you are looking for a unique escape, this is it. Some of the most exotic wildlife is in the middle of Sydney city center, the freshest food you can have, and the people! So warm, always ready to jump in to help you out and offer friendly hugs. I never knew finding the kangaroos and koalas in Australia could be as simple as visiting the zoo in the city center right across from the pier. I never would have thought architecture would become a statement of art to me. Yes, it’s famous. Yes, in other places I was wowed by temples and artwork in museums, but the Opera House really resonated with me. It felt towering and beautiful, and made me really appreciate all the wonders that fill our world. The food tastes animated, even though it’s the realest food I’ve tried through the six continents. It feels like it came out of an AI machine and was produced in that millisecond for you to try. Just something out of this world, for real.

Things to do in Sydney, Australia

The wildlife at Sidney Zoo

You can see kangoroos, snakes, have a photo op with koalas, and chat with the nicest lady from Brazil who might give you a koala leaf as a gift, plus so much more unique wildlife. There is a section here with some wildlife that requires a dark setting, so please don’t take photos as much as you may want to remember these cuties forever—just enjoy in the moment! (Same applies to sanctuaries worldwide, including a few in New Zealand, since it’s common to combine a trip to Australia and New Zealand together).

Opera House

Obviously a gem in itself but near a gorgeous riverside with many shops and places to eat. You don’t have to tour inside to get a feel of its greatness (tours on select days). You can sit on the steps and just simply take it all in. All the dimensions, angles, grandiosity of it all.

Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef tour

A helicopter tour is optimal. I cried, and I don’t cry often. The unimaginable beauty of scenery will get to you, even if you are a tough cookie! Use Airlie Beach town or Cairns as a point from where to take these helicopter tours, especially if you do a day trip like I did.

Penrith Museum of Fire

There are many historic museums around the world dedicated to police or medical professionals, but not many to firefighters. Check out the dedication to one important team of first responders here!

Queen Victoria Market

A short but busy, vibrant market to enjoy a nice stroll around.

Places to eat & drink in Sydney, Australia

Kimpton Margot Sydney

Two places here are phenomenal. If you asked me what would be my last meal, it would be anything off this menu at Luke’s kitchen—it’s exceptional! The other is the cafe in the lobby called The Pantry. The best sandwich I have had worldwide was from there—the salami one!. I ate it for three days straight and it was my first time trying protein balls, so good, and I love the health touch even though they are considered pastries. All of their pastries are great!

Bennelong

Located inside the Opera House and a treat for sure. I love just the outside of the building; imagine the inside? (Pro tip: Here and other places worldwide, if you need access to a specific view or a tour, try locating a restaurant on property and securing a reservation, or ask if walk-in is available or bar seating. Same view but saves you $, time, and hassle.)

Clarence and V

A minimalist spot offering a wide array of options. Such a cute and cozy atmosphere.

Quay

Fine dining experience with great views, like stunner views!
