Advisor - LEGOLAND Florida: A Kid-Approved Trip That Parents Will Actually Love
Curator’s statement

With rides that are manageable for little ones yet exciting for tweens, hands-on building workshops, and a full day of fun at the water park, LEGOLAND is truly a Florida theme-park gem. With its LEGO-themed atmosphere, interactive building zones, and typically shorter wait times, the park offers a more laid-back pace compared to other major Orlando-area theme parks.

Things to do

LEGOLAND sunset pontoon cruise on Lake Eloise

  • Attend a 20-minute interactive workshop at the LEGO DREAMZzz Creation Station, located in Fun Town. This workshop allows kids to practice their building skills, create fantastical creatures, and become "Dream Chasers."

  • Children ages 6-13 can obtain their official driver's license at LEGOLAND'S Ford Driving School. Navigate an electric LEGO car through a city-themed course and receive your personalized photo license upon completion (for a fee).

  • Build your own LEGO Ferrari at the LEGO Ferrari Build & Race attraction. Test its speed and performance on three tracks with varying obstacles. This attraction also offers a DUPLO build zone for your tiny builders.

  • Cool off on Battle of Bricksburg, an interactive boat ride where no one escapes dry. Riders are thrilled to find the onboard water cannons, which they can use to soak DUPLO alien invaders (aka, nearby park guests), while non-riders can strike back from cannons stationed around the ride.

  • A walk through MINILAND USA leaves brick lovers of all ages in awe of iconic landmarks, creations built from more than 32 million LEGO bricks. The impressive New York City skyline, a LEGO space shuttle in NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the tiny neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip, and Star Wars Miniland are among some of the most popular displays.

  • Spend a day at LEGOLAND Water Park: Customize your own LEGO brick float at the Build-a-Raft Lazy River, build and play with soft floating LEGO bricks while catching waves in the LEGO Wave Pool, and let younger builders splash and explore in the DUPLO Splash Safari play area. With 14 water slides offering a range of thrill levels, there's something for kids ages 2–12 to enjoy.

    • Pro tip: We visited the LEGOLAND Water Park in June. It was a relatively busy day, and we had no buyer's remorse over the private cabana upgrade. The kids will be happy no matter where you're stationed, but having a shaded home base and a private host to handle food orders—saving us from those long lunch lines—made the day so much more relaxing for us parents. If you have little ones who still need nap time or frequent cool-down breaks, it’s worth every penny.

  • Wild Side Mini Golf is best enjoyed in the evening, boasting sunset views over Lake Eloise. Located behind LEGOLAND Hotel and situated on the boardwalk by the s'mores fire pit, this low-stress activity is a great way to wind down after a busy day at the park.

  • Don't skip on scheduling the sunset cruise on the LEGOLAND Hotel pontoon boat. Located outside the main theme park on Lake Eloise, just behind the LEGOLAND Hotel, this evening excursion ended up being one of our most cherished LEGOLAND experiences. The pontoon captain was pleasantly engaging, even allowing each child a turn "driving" the boat. Along with peaceful views and a calm retreat from theme park activity, we spotted several native wildlife species and learned about the area's local history. You do not have to be a guest at the LEGOLAND Hotel to book the pontoon boat ride.

Places to eat & drink

LEGOLAND Fun Town Pizza and Pasta Buffet

  • Shipwreck Restaurant is my number-one dining recommendation at LEGOLAND Florida. With a lively pirate-themed atmosphere, all-you-can eat skillets, and a play area for kids, dinner here was the perfect way to kick off our first night at LEGOLAND. Make your reservation ahead of time—it's a popular restaurant that books up quickly.

  • Most dining options within the LEGOLAND theme park are counter service with outdoor seating. We opted for one of the few indoor options—Fun Town Pizza & Pasta Buffet, featuring all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta, and salads. We arrived for an early lunch at 11 am and were immediately seated with no wait. A sit-down lunch in the air conditioning was a welcome retreat from the Florida sun.

  • Azteca D’ Oro Mexican Restaurant is less than a five-minute drive from LEGOLAND, making it an easy go-to after a full day at the park. After all that activity, classic Mexican comfort food really hit the spot.

  • The Skyline Lounge is located in the lobby of the LEGOLAND Hotel, and balances adult comfort with kid-friendly entertainment. Parents can enjoy food and drink while the kids dive in the LEGO brick pit and play in the large castle playground, all within eyesight.

  • Lucille’s American Cafe is a short drive away in downtown Winter Haven, often described as a “local gem.” With made-fresh comfort food and a nostalgic, subtly retro atmosphere, Lucille’s is a refreshing alternative to theme park dining.

Need to know

Things to consider when deciding where to stay during your LEGOLAND trip:

  • Staying on property is an experience of its own, and keeps the excitement going even after you leave the park. That said, it's a highly themed, high-energy environment. If your child is sensitive to noise or overstimulation and thrives in a calmer setting, staying off site may be the better fit.

  • If staying off site is essential for your budget, you can still enjoy parts of the hotel experience without booking a room. Dining at one of the hotel restaurants, reserving a spot on the sunset pontoon cruise, or playing a round at Wild Side Mini Golf are just a few ways non-guests can experience the hotel property.

Deciding on fast passes:

Unlike Disney and Universal, fast passes at LEGOLAND Florida typically won't make or break your day. Wait times often range from five to 20 minutes. If avoiding kid (and parent) meltdowns is a top priority, fast passes can be a worthwhile safety net to work into your budget. They're most valuable during peak holiday/school break periods, when wait times for popular rides tend to climb. We visited in mid-June with fast passes. Even though an online crowd calendar predicted a busy day, most rides had wait times under 15 minutes without a fast pass.
