Advisor - Costa Rica Done Right: Jungle, Beaches & Hidden Gems
Curator’s statement

Costa Rica isn’t the type of trip you can just book in one place and “figure out” later—and that’s where most people go wrong. I’ve seen people try to do jungle, beaches, and activities all from one area, and they end up spending more time driving than enjoying the trip. When it’s planned right—splitting your stay, choosing the right regions, and timing your experiences—Costa Rica feels like multiple trips in one, and that’s what makes it unforgettable.

Where to stay in Costa Rica

Things to do in Costa Rica

This is why Costa Rica isn’t a one-stop trip.

  • Arenal Volcano National Park: This is the heart of the jungle experience. Do the hikes early—heat and crowds build up fast.

  • Hot Springs: After a long day, this is one of the best ways to relax. The nicer resorts make a big difference here.

  • Ziplining in Monteverde: One of the best places in the world for it—but go with a reputable company. Cheap options feel rushed.

  • Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve: Feels completely different from La Fortuna. Cooler, misty, and more nature-focused.

  • Waterfalls in La Fortuna: Worth it, but go early or it gets crowded quickly.

  • Beach time in Guanacaste: This is your “slow down” part of the trip. Don’t try to squeeze in activities here—just enjoy it.

Places to eat & drink in Costa Rica

Where the views are as good as the food.

  • Don Rufino: One of the better dining spots in the area. Clean, consistent, and worth booking ahead.

  • Restaurante Celajes at Hotel Belmar: Great views and local ingredients. Feels like part of the experience.

  • Lola’s Costa Rica: Beachside, relaxed, and exactly the kind of spot you want after a long trip.

  • Soda La Hormiga: Local food, simple setup—but this is where you taste Costa Rica.

  • Resort dining: Choose wisely. Some resorts do this really well. Others don’t. This is where booking the right hotel matters.

Need to know

  • Don’t stay in one place the whole trip. This is the biggest mistake. Costa Rica is meant to be experienced in different regions.

  • Travel time is real here. Roads aren’t like the U.S. What looks close on a map usually is not.

  • Plan your route before booking hotels. Not after. This is what makes or breaks the trip.

  • Split your trip between jungle and beach. That’s how you get the full experience.

  • Pack for both climates. The jungle can be humid and rainy, while the beach is hot and sunny.
