Curator’s statement
For someone who loves the outdoors, animals, great food, and a little downtime, the Bernese Oberland was the perfect destination for a couples trip with my husband. This region is home to some of Switzerland’s most iconic scenery, and every day felt effortlessly balanced. We’d start our mornings with great coffee, hop on the incredibly easy-to-navigate transportation, and head out for a hike or scenic adventure. Evenings were just as perfect for winding down by the fire, enjoying the sauna, and walking to nearby spots for delicious food and cocktails.

Things to do in Switzerland

Mürren, Switzerland
Staubbach Falls is one of the most iconic sights in the valley, cascading 980 feet down the cliffs behind Lauterbrunnen village. Easily accessible, it’s a mesmerizing backdrop, and in the summer months, you can even climb the path and stairs to stand behind the rushing water.
Trümmelbach Falls offers a completely different experience, where you feel the power of the region’s glacial waterfalls inside a mountain. A tunnel lift and a series of paths and stairways guide you through this dramatic, cave-like setting.
The First Cliff Walk by Tissot isn’t for the faint of heart. From a scenic gondola ride to a thrilling suspension bridge and glass platform, every step delivers sweeping panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks.
From there, the trail to Bachalpsee is about an hour’s walk and well worth it. The path is easy, scenic, and filled with postcard-worthy alpine views the entire way.
The Northface Trail was easily one of the most beautiful hikes of our trip, and the Murren village is a must-see as well. Along the way, we stopped for lunch and a refreshing Swiss beer, surrounded by sweeping mountain views and cows grazing nearby.
The Royal Walk and Panorama Trail was one of the most scenic and accessible hikes in the region. This gentle, well-maintained path is perfect for a relaxed walk, with nonstop views of the towering Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau (the cows also come up to you!).
Places to eat & drink in Switzerland

Swiss fondue
Located in Wengen, the Deck Restaurant was my all-time favorite spot to enjoy fondue and a cocktail with a beautiful view of the valley. My favorites were the Flammkuchen, Traditional Fondue, and Negroni.
Lecker Asia was our favorite food from our trip and provided a break from the nonstop cheese we were eating. We got the Katsu Chicken and Bulgogi Beef!
Tanne Bar had great drinks and even better service in Wengen. Ronald was the kindest person and made me a specialty drink when I was being indecisive.
Restaurant Schiff in Lucerne had great views of the Chapel Bridge along the river’s edge and great food (just beware it’s pricey!).
Restaurant Opus was the perfect romantic spot to grab a glass of wine and look at the Chapel Bridge.
