Curator’s statement

Kansas City may be the smallest of the 16 host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but it delivers a big experience. The city is home to an incredible food scene, standout coffee shops, stylish cocktail lounges, and plenty of local gems to discover. You might recognize the city as the home of Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, but there’s so much more that makes Kansas City special. From warm Midwestern hospitality to vintage boutiques and scenic outdoor spaces filled with beautiful parks, it’s a destination with something for everyone to enjoy.

Things to do in Kansas City

Shawnee Mission Lake

River Market & Berkeley Riverfront

Get a scoop of ice cream at Betty Rae’s Ice Cream, then wander down to the Town of Kansas Bridge. Take the stairs to the Berkley Riverfront Trail and enjoy a scenic walk along the Missouri River. The trail leads to CPKC Stadium, home of the KC Current and the first stadium in the world built exclusively for a professional women’s sports team. To keep the soccer spirit going, stop by Pitchside Coffee in the Crossroads, a coffee shop founded by six of the KC Current players. Then, head to The Dub, a women’s-sports-focused bar that prides itself on its inclusive and community-driven atmosphere.

A morning in the Crossroads

Book a Pilates class at Hite Reformer Studio for a total-body workout that will leave you shaking. Afterwards, treat yourself to a refreshing matcha at Dear Society, home of The Matcha Bar and recently featured on The 50 Best Clothing Stores in America by The New York Times. Don’t miss Blackbird Collection next door—visits are by appointment only, so plan ahead. For more shopping, stop by Duet, a charming gift shop with a mix of art, pottery, and home goods. Another can’t-miss is Do Good Co., which offers a curated selection of contemporary and vintage clothing, with proceeds supporting local charities.

The West Bottoms

Reserve a table at ADHDiy Craft Cafe and dive into a variety of craft projects—materials are provided, and you can enjoy beverages and snacks from the cafe or bring your own. Afterward, explore the vintage and antique shops that line nearly every street corner. For a truly relaxing experience, visit Kla Sanctuary, a bathhouse spa featuring four unique baths, an infrared sauna, herbal steam rooms, and organic specialty treatments. Pause at their onsite Selah Lounge for tea, specialty drinks, or light bites before or after your session. Leave your phone in your locker—this is a true cell phone–free zone, designed for rest and rejuvenation.

Westside

Grab brunch at Seven Swans Creperie, known for its sweet and savory crêpes, then pick up fresh tortillas from James Beard–nominated Yoli Tortilleria. Savor Middle Eastern flavors in a cozy former house on Kansas City’s Westside at Clay and Fire—and don’t miss the restroom, where a bathtub doubles as a koi pond. For handmade pasta lovers, Zero Zero is a must-visit, though snagging a table can be a challenge. For drinks and small bites, grab a seat at XO HiFi, a local favorite, or stop by Fox and Pearl nearby for craft cocktails and incredible bistro food.

Green spaces galore

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Loose Park, one of Kansas City’s most beloved green spaces, where you’ll find a beautiful rose garden, scenic pond, and tennis courts. Bring a picnic and relax in this 74-acre urban park, the perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. Rent kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats, or canoes in the heart of Shawnee Mission Park, one of the area’s most beautiful outdoor spaces. Dog lovers should paddle over to the beach at Shawnee Mission Park Off-Leash Dog Area, where you can watch pups happily splash into the lake to fetch tennis balls from the shore.

Museum hop

Kansas City is home to an incredible collection of museums worth exploring. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art near the Country Club Plaza features world-class art and beautiful sculpture gardens. The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures offers a unique chance to experience history, art, and imagination through its remarkable collections. The National WWI Museum and Memorial is the country’s official museum dedicated to World War I and offers one of the best panoramic views of the Kansas City skyline. In the historic 18th & Vine District, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum shares the powerful history of the game and its role in civil rights. Next door, the American Jazz Museum—once called “an interactive paradise” by The New York Times—celebrates the city’s rich jazz heritage. Recently opened in the city’s North Kansas City area, the The Rabbit hOle invites both kids and adults to step into immersive exhibits inspired by beloved children’s books and classic stories—making it a dream stop for anyone who loves reading.
