Things to do in Washington, DC

Swingers Dupont Circle
Great Big Game Show DC: Great Big Game Show DC is an unforgettable experience for groups of friends looking for laughs and friendly competition. Each round features a rotating lineup of mini-games, including strategy challenges, trivia, speed tests, and interactive puzzles that keep everyone engaged. I loved how unpredictable and fast-paced the games were—it felt like stepping into a live TV game show. It is perfect for birthday parties, team-building outings, or just a playful night out with friends. Don’t forget to bring your competitive spirit and a sense of humor.
Swingers Dupont Circle: Swingers is not your average mini-golf course. This indoor venue combines whimsical mini-golf holes with a street-food-inspired menu, creative cocktails, and a vibrant social atmosphere. It’s high-energy, fun, and a little bit cheeky. Perfect for a casual yet unforgettable night out or a playful post-dinner activity.
Drag Brunch at Perry’s: Perry’s Drag Brunch is a high-energy, hilarious experience that is perfect for celebrating a birthday or just having a fun Sunday with friends. They host two shows on Sunday, at 10 am and 1 pm, so reservations are essential. The performers put so much effort into their costumes, choreography, and jokes! You really feel the love and energy in the room. One tip: bring plenty of $1 bills for tipping. It may feel like a small gesture, but performers really appreciate it, and it makes the experience even more interactive and fun.
The Escape Game DC (Penn Quarter): If you and your friends love puzzles and teamwork, The Escape Game DC is a must-do. The rooms are incredibly immersive, with detailed sets, clever challenges, and scenarios that make you feel like part of the story. Our group was completely absorbed for the full hour, laughing, strategizing, and celebrating little victories along the way. It is challenging without being frustrating, and it’s perfect for building memories with friends before a night out in the city.
Showtunes at JR’s Bar: JR’s Bar is a hidden gem for musical theater lovers. On Saturdays and Mondays, they host showtunes nights where you can sing along to everything from Wicked and Disney classics to 80s, 90s, and current Broadway hits. The energy in the bar is infectious, and it is a great way to connect with friends over shared favorites. We went after dinner, and it made for a playful, lighthearted evening. Even if you aren’t a huge Broadway fan, the atmosphere and crowd make it a fun stop.
Smithsonian National Zoological Park: The National Zoo is an ideal spot if the weather is beautiful while you are in DC. I loved seeing the pandas, exotic birds, and other animals up close. Beyond the animal exhibits, the zoo is committed to conservation and education, which adds a meaningful layer to the visit. It’s easy to spend a few hours strolling through the beautifully maintained grounds, taking in the sights and sounds, and enjoying time with friends. Don’t miss the interactive learning exhibits—they make the visit both fun and informative.
Places to eat & drink in Washington, DC

Friends at Menya Hosaki
Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers: Founding Farmers Fishers & Bakers is a must-visit for anyone looking for a hearty, farm-to-table dining experience with a modern twist. The restaurant offers a menu that ranges from fresh sushi to classic American fare, all served in a sleek, eco-chic setting with beautiful river views. I tried the fish fry combo, which was perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, and the staff made our dinner feel special and relaxed at the same time.
Menya Hosaki: Menya Hosaki is a must-visit for ramen lovers and anyone looking for a culinary highlight in DC. The restaurant has limited hours and a special flavor every Tuesday, which makes planning your visit an adventure in itself. Arrive early, as lines form quickly even on weekends. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, which was rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The broth had a perfect depth of flavor, and the noodles had the perfect chewiness. It is hands down one of the best ramen experiences I have had in the DMV.
Honeymoon Chicken: Located just steps from Menya Hosaki, Honeymoon Chicken is perfect for starting your evening with appetizers. The chicken and watermelon salad was light, refreshing, and flavorful, while the sticky chicken wings were perfectly crispy, coated in a glossy, tangy-sweet sauce with just the right amount of heat. The presentation and flavor combinations made this spot a delightful prelude to dinner. I cannot wait to go back.
Tiki Garden Thai Street Food DC: Tiki Garden is a small, casual spot that delivers bold Thai flavors. We tried the crab fried rice and drunken noodles, and both dishes were packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The space is cozy, but the quality of the food makes it worth the visit. It is a great stop if you are exploring the city and want a quick but memorable meal.
AMBAR Restaurant, Shaw: AMBAR is an all-you-can-eat Balkan tapas restaurant with a focus on bold flavors and unique dishes. The small plates are perfect for sharing and offer a wide range of flavors from savory to tangy to spicy. The presentation and care in each dish is apparent, and the environment encourages conversation and laughter. I loved the creativity and authenticity of the menu. It is unlike any other restaurant I have tried in D.C. and makes for a fun and interactive dinner experience.
Thunder Burger & Bar: Thunder Burger & Bar is a casual spot in Georgetown that is perfect for a relaxed lunch. The burgers are juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served on soft, slightly toasted buns. The variety of toppings allows everyone to customize their meal, and the prices are reasonable for the area. Pair your burger with a cold beer, sit back, and enjoy a low-key, satisfying meal with friends.
Clyde’s of Georgetown: Clyde is a classic DC option for brunch or casual dining. We went after the Great Big Game Show DC, and the menu offered everything from brunch classics to pasta. The standout for our group was the Croque-Madame. It was perfectly executed and satisfying. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere makes it an easy choice for groups looking for comfort food in a lively setting.
The Little Gay Pub: This pub combines British and European charm with a casual, welcoming vibe. There is indoor and outdoor seating, making it a versatile stop for drinks and conversation. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, perfect for a group of friends looking to enjoy a few cocktails in a fun, unpretentious environment.
Need to know
Drag Brunch: Bring $1 bills to tip performers generously. They work hard to put on a show, and it makes the experience even more fun.
Getting around: Washington, DC is very walkable, and the metro system is one of the easiest ways to get around the city efficiently. That said, some destinations on this guide are best accessed by Lyft or Uber, especially if you want to save time or avoid walking long distances in between activities. Be prepared to walk, though, because many attractions, especially around the National Mall, require short walks of 5 to 15 minutes between stops. Bring comfortable shoes, like good sneakers, and stay hydrated.
Museums & monuments: Most museums are free. Some require online reservations, so check ahead and plan your tickets.
Airports: The DC area has three airports: BWI, IAD, and DCA. DCA is the closest and most convenient for central DC, but compare prices to find the best deal.
Nearby city: Baltimore is only 30 minutes away. Sometimes flights are cheaper into BWI, and you may take a car or the bus to DC, if you want to also explore Baltimore.
