Curator’s statement
Milos is an island destination that will easily steal your heart. Unlike the flashiness of Santorini or the intense party crowds of Mykonos, Milos offers an unpretentious blend of slow-burning romance, raw adventure, and authentic charm. With its striking, volcanic coastlines, crystalline waters, and quiet fishing villages, it provides the perfect backdrop for couples who want to disconnect from the world and connect with each other. It feels exclusive without being pretentious, making it the ultimate hidden gem for a dreamy Mediterranean escape.

Things to do in Milos

Kostantakis Cave Winery
Full-day catamaran cruise
You cannot leave Milos without seeing it from the water, particularly the dramatic white cliffs of Kleftiko. I highly recommend booking an intimate, 12-person maximum cruise that covers full meals, open beverages, and snorkeling gear for exploring hidden sea caves.
Insider tip: These small-group excursions fill up weeks in advance, so let’s lock this in the moment your flights are booked.
Indulge at beach clubs
For an elevated afternoon, head to Salty Goat Beach Club for plush sunbeds, artisan cocktails, and a gorgeous view that carries you straight into sunset. If the notorious Cycladic meltemi winds pick up, pivot immediately to Aqua Loca at the Artemis Seaside Resort. It sits on Paliochori Beach, which is uniquely sheltered by high cliffs and stays calm even when the rest of the island is breezy.
Explore Plaka at sunset
This pedestrian-only town is an absolute maze of whitewashed alleyways, hidden bougainvillea, and tiny boutiques. Skip the crowded castle viewpoint and grab an outdoor table at a local bar early to watch the sun sink into the Aegean with a drink in hand.
Sunrise at Sarakiniko Beach
Famous for its sweeping, chalk-white volcanic rock that looks like a lunar landscape, Sarakiniko is an absolute must-see.
My recommendation: Arrive exactly at sunrise before the tour buses hit. The morning light reflecting off the white stone is incredibly romantic, and if you’re feeling adventurous (and the wind is low), it’s the prime spot for cliff jumping into the turquoise water.
Adamas Port Promenade
As the main gateway to the island, Adamas is always buzzing with energy. Take a late-evening stroll along the harbor front to watch the yachts come in, but make sure to stop by Vanilla Boutique. It is my personal favorite for high-end shopping on the island; you’ll find the perfect flowy sun dress for a romantic dinner or premium swimwear for the beach clubs.
Insider tip: If you’re visiting in September, you can snag high-end Greek designer pieces at a steal—they typically run major sales this month to clear inventory before the season ends.
Wander the Fishing Village of Klima
Don’t miss this tiny, vibrant fishing village known for its syrmata—brightly colored boathouses carved directly into the rock at the water’s edge. It is one of the most photographed spots on the island for a reason.
Advisor tip: The stone walkways here can get incredibly slippery from the sea spray and moss. I always tell my clients to skip the heels or flimsy flip-flops here and wear shoes with a good grip so you can explore the waterfront without any spills!
Stroll through Pollonia
A quiet, beautifully quaint fishing village on the northern tip of the island. It’s lined with romantic, waterfront restaurants where you can dine on fresh catch with your toes practically touching the sea.
Kostantakis Cave Winery
Tucked away in Pollonia, this hidden gem is the only commercial winery on the island. The tasting rooms and cellars are cut directly into a cool, subterranean labyrinth, making it an incredibly intimate and romantic escape. It’s a fantastic option for a breezy afternoon, as the underground caves offer a quiet, sheltered sanctuary from the meltemi winds.
My recommendation: Try a flight of their indigenous varietals to see how the island’s unique volcanic soil transforms the flavor of the grapes.
Places to eat & drink in Milos

Endless views
O! Hamos! Tavern (Adamas Port)
This family-run institution serves up legendary, authentic Greek hospitality on handmade clay dishes, with a menu handwritten in a school notebook. They source everything from their own family farm, so skip the seafood here and go straight for the slow-baked lamb in parchment paper or the melt-in-your-mouth piglet.
Insider tip: They don’t take reservations and the line is notorious. Put your name down and cross the street to lounge on the beach chairs with a glass of their house barrel wine while you wait.
Medusa (Mandrakia)
An iconic, open-air taverna sitting right above a colorful inlet of boathouses. It is the absolute quintessential spot for a long, sun-drenched lunch. Look up to see the actual octopus drying on lines in the sea breeze, then order the signature sun-dried grilled octopus and the baked feta.
Nostos Seafood Experience (Adamas Port)
If you want a modern, upscale date night right on the water, this is it. They take local, daily-caught seafood and elevate it with contemporary plating. Ask your server for a pairing recommendation from their excellent list of Assyrtiko wines.
Nama (Pollonia)
A beautifully cozy beachfront restaurant that takes traditional Greek comfort food and gives it a fresh, modern twist. The setting is incredibly relaxed, allowing you to linger over a bottle of wine while listening to the waves.
Barriello (Trypiti/Plaka area)
Easily one of the most romantic settings on the island for a sunset dinner. They focus on upscale Mediterranean fusion using organic ingredients grown on their own private farm—order the handmade ravioli or their creative eggplant dishes, and make sure to request an outdoor terrace table when booking.
Astakas Cafe (Klima)
Located right next to Klima’s iconic colorful boathouses, this spot offers unparalleled front-row seats to the sunset. Secure a table right on the sand and order a platter of fresh grilled seafood to share as the sun dips below the horizon.
Need to know
Milos is an island meant for exploration, and the best way to experience it is with total freedom. I highly recommend renting a car or, for couples looking for a bit more adventure, an ATV to navigate the island’s dirt paths and unpaved beach tracks at your own pace.
One thing to keep in mind while traveling through the Cyclades is that strong north winds (the meltemi) can occasionally impact ferry and flight schedules or make certain northern beaches wavy. Don’t worry if this happens—it’s just your cue to head to the protected southern beaches like Paliochori, duck into the cave winery, or explore the sheltered hill towns.
Whether you want slow, sun-drenched mornings, catamaran adventures, or wine tastings in a cave, Milos bends entirely to your rhythm. It’s the kind of destination that feels incredibly romantic, authentically Greek, and wonderfully laid-back all at once.
Having spent time navigating its winding paths and hidden coves, I’ve curated this guide to help you find the quiet corners and local flavors that make Milos feel like your own private discovery.
