Day 1: Barcelona Cathedral

Barcelona, gothic towers.

You can fly direct from many US airports and will arrive in Barcelona in the morning after traveling overnight. Check into your hotel and hit the ground running to try to adjust to the new time zone you will want to stay busy! Grab a cappuccino and take a guided electric bike tour. This is a great way to get acquainted with the area and ours ended with tapas and wine tasting. Afterwards, roam around the narrow pedestrian streets of the Gothic Quarter and visit the Barcelona Cathedral. Head back to your hotel to get cleaned up for dinner. There are so many great restaurants to walk to. Tonight would be a great night to try authentic paella which is usually made for two people to share.

Day 2: Casa Batllo

Casa Batllo by Gaudi.

Today you will visit Casa Batllo make sure you tour the inside — it’s stunning! For lunch head to La Boquera. You can walk there from Casa Batllo and they have so many options for fresh delicious food. After lunch make your way to Park Guell, another one of Gaudi’s masterpieces. On your walk back to the hotel stop for a glass of wine and do some shopping! Stop back at the hotel to get freshened up and get ready for dinner. Tonight try Babula Bar for dinner. They have a tapas tasting menu that is delicious.

Day 3: Tour Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia cathedral in Spain.

Tour the Sagrada Familia. Spend the rest of the day wandering around Barcelona. Have custom espadrilles made for you at La Manual Alpargatera. Keep in mind most stores in Barcelona are closed on Sunday. Go to Placa De Catalunya. When you hold out your arms pigeons will land right on you! Have a drink at one of the many rooftop bars such as Altair’s terrace or the rooftop at Majestic Hotel and spa. Tonight try dinner at Blavis, you won’t be disappointed.

Day 4: Piscina Municipal de Montjuic

Piscina Municipal de Montjuic in Barcelona.

Today you are going to hike up to the Olympic pools that were used for the 1992 summer Olympics (Piscina Municipal de Montjuic). There are LOTS of stairs so be prepared, but once up there the view is stunning! Depending on the season you can swim there if you like. Otherwise just have a drink and snack at the Salts Bar. On your way back walk along the water. Find somewhere to eat near Marine Port Vell. There are so many seafood restaurants to choose from!

Day 5: Montserrat

Montserrat hills in Barcelona.

Take the metro to the train station heading to Montserrat. It’s about an hour train ride and then from there you will take the funicular up to the top. There are many beautiful hiking paths as well as the monastery. Bring lunch to enjoy on the mountain or eat at one of the cafes there. Plan to spend most of the day here. Tonight after dinner stop in Gens Que J’aime for a drink. It’s a very cool bar with speakeasy vibes.

Additional Days

Ciutadella Park with boats on a lake in Barcelona.

Take a tour to wine country in Vilafranca del Penedes. There are many options for tours of wineries and lunch. Do not be afraid to just wander. Get lost in the streets and squares. Go to Ciutadella Park.
